Meals on Wheels of East Texas offers daily meal service to homebound elderly and disabled residents of the county. The organization’s food deliverers also serve as an emotional support link for seniors in the region through friendly daily chats. Elderly residents of Tyler and Smith County may join this program if they’re 60 years of age or older, genuinely homebound due to physical or emotional reasons, and unable to prepare their own meals. Meals on Wheels staff perform assessments to qualify applicants. The organization also offers meals for pets to its elderly clients.

The Area Agency on Aging for East Texas serves Smith and several other counties in East Texas.
