"My dad is saying in Sterling Heights Gracious Retirement Living. He's been there since the day it opened, which is like nine years now. We have no complaints with them. They take care of him. The ladies all love him. They check on him and stuff when we're not available. They feed him three times a day. They clean his room, so we're good. Sometimes he forgets to eat a meal, but they always check on him. If he missed a meal, they'd go and get him something. I eat there occasionally with him, and the food is no problem. They have all kinds of things going on all the time, like they do bean beanbag baseball and all kinds of things. Not necessarily that he participates in them anymore, but they have lots of things and field trips. They have festivities. They do New Year's Eve parties, and they celebrate everything. We checked into other places, and he is getting the value for what he pays for. I would be thrilled if I could afford it when I get to that age."

"The Palmerton is neat, it's clean, it's relatively new, and it's kept up very well. They have a very good staff and so far, my mother is liking it better than where she was. They have very good food and a very nice dining hall. I think they also have an activities room and they seem to make sure that they have some type of activity every day to keep these people entertained. She enjoyed the sing-along and on the 4th of July, they had two people in there singing patriotic songs. She is blind, that's why she's in assisted living. She went blind later in life so she never really learned Braille or anything like that."

"Renaissance Home Forks was very nice but they don't have a kitchen and I like to cook. So that's a negative for that one. I prefer to have my own kitchen. The building was very nice. I liked it. It was a very nice facility in a nice location. It's close to things. I almost would not need a car, because my car is costing me lots of money between the insurance and the car payments. The gentleman was very nice and very helpful. We sat and talked for a while until I had to leave. I was impressed with that. They have a room for dining and activities. I've talked to another gentleman who's been there over a year, and he likes it. Were it not for the no kitchens, I considered that facility a strong possibility. Other than that, it was wonderful and I liked the location. You could walk to a grocery store or shops and it wasn't right in the middle of things. It was in a nice area that wasn't too heavily trafficked or built up. Not quite rural but not quite suburban either."

"They bring in a lot of musicians, dancers, and that type of thing at Walnut Woods, so my mom enjoys going to those. She goes to Bingo a few times, and then they actually opened up a little retail store in the place, and my mom is working in there. She was in retail back in her working days, she enjoys the people, and it gives her something to do two days a week. It’s within the facility, so she doesn’t have to travel. She has a studio, so she has one of the smaller rooms, but for her, it’s great. She doesn’t need a lot of space. For her, the key part was the bathroom. She also has a handicapped-friendly shower that she really likes and has a seat in it, and she can just get around her place very easily. It’s small, so she doesn’t have to walk very far within her place to get to either her refrigerator or into the bathroom. And the other key part for her was she wanted it to be closer to the cafeteria, so she doesn’t have to walk that far to get there, and it met all her criteria. "

"I visited Paradise Manor. They were very accommodating and very knowledgeable. The place was clean. It seemed to have everything there that was needed, and it's close to where I live. I believe it's like $1,500 a month. I didn't see many activities. I basically just saw the amenities. It's more of a studio-type environment."

"Manatawny Manor is nice. However, my mom is very adamant about going into any kind of place. The rooms are nice and the place is clean. They did some renovations. The staff seems very helpful and very knowledgeable. There is nothing bad I can say about it."

"My brother moved into St Mary's Manor. He had been there before for medical treatments, and he went into rehab. They're very caring people/staff; the doctor calls me with updates. I was able to be part of their care meeting management virtually, so that was good. The staff is very good. His friend said the food is fine, but my brother cannot eat food right now; he has a feeding tube. They seem to have a caring staff, competent doctors, and they do have different levels of care, so that's helpful."

"I moved into Hudson Estates. I chose it because they didn't have any entrance fees and they were very cooperative on how much money was due at the beginning. It's new and I'm very comfortable. Everybody is very cooperative, very helpful, very nice, and very friendly. The rent includes 3 meals, but there are some days when the food is not so good. There's a good selection of activities and there's always something to do. I enjoyed the book club that I went to."

"The people at Emeritus at Allentown were pleasant. It was a nice facility. The staff was very helpful. The rooms were nice. It was almost like a motel there. To me that was appealing, but to my mom, I don't know if it was appealing or not. Regarding activities, they played bingo, and they also went out in the community with trips. There were people sitting around and building puzzles. They brought in entertainment in on some nights, e.g., live bands, somebody playing music like a concert-type thing. That was a pretty nice set-up that they had. "

"My visit to West Turner Residences was very insightful. I got a lot of information from the person selling the apartment. She gave me a letter about the residents, and about the overall history of the building. The apartment itself was large and spacious. They have their own laundry room down in the basement. Everything was nice and clean, and one thing that caught my eye is that each floor had a walk-out deck where you can go out and have coffee or just sit and relax with a nice lounge chair. The deck outside of the apartment building was a nice feature where you can go out on the deck and just enjoy a really nice warm day. All the residents can be nice and pleasant. That was the best senior apartment that I've seen within the Allentown, Bethlehem area. The community was good as it was close to all these shops and restaurants, and people were saying it was good for the sports events and stuff, which I like. The marketplace was right there; on a nice day, it's a nice walking distance. It was comfortable, and there's a park that is like two or three blocks over from the building. So, everything was really close, really convenient, and nice. They're building a new apartment complex on the other end, and I know recently they built another one right across from each other. That area is very nice, especially for a lot of young people. She showed me a 1- and 2-bedroom apartment. The 2-bedroom was an exception because it had a big foyer. When you come to the entrance door, it was beautiful. The appliances were all- electric and had a nice quality carpet. It's a nice large apartment where you can spread things out; everything is not tight. It was probably the best senior apartment I've seen; it's impressive. I just think at that time, my income was slightly over what the expectations were, but I think now, it might be right where they wanted it. I can't get in touch with anybody and can't get an application. So, that's one problem. It's a nice place, especially for myself; someplace that's safe and secure, and that's what I'm looking for. It's your apartment, you do your grocery shopping and that's about it. It was exactly what I wanted in an apartment. The layout was good; it was very clean. The parking was ample right in front of the building; I'm not sure if it's the same, but there was a lot of parking."

"I like Luther Crest Senior Living Community, but I couldn't afford it. The tour was good. My husband and I went there first just to hear a talk, and they told you a lot about the setup and what they were building, adding to and all of that. We had a snack-type thing. Then we went back in time and we got to see one of the rooms. They were all filled. The staff was great. They had a lot of activities. We saw the activity sheets. They have a lot of outdoor things that would take them places like shopping or to theaters or things like that."

"Country Meadows Retirement Communities has the memory care that my mom needs and they seem to be well staffed. They are very knowledgeable and helpful. The place is very nice, very homey and very clean. All of the activities and things are done in the center of the building with two halls running on either side, so I thought they had a good system of putting a community place in the center. My mother has only been there for a few days, but I saw that they do some art activities, some singing and games. They also have dentists and doctors that come in, a salon, a nice patio, and an enclosed outdoor area for walking. So far, they've been working with her very well."

"The Village is a regular apartment, but they have a clubhouse and activities for all the people. I have a 2-bedroom, 2-bath apartment and it's one of the few places that allow dogs. They have a very good handyman on the premises five days a week. There are parties by the pool. It's in a centrally located area. I'd recommend it to anyone. It's for people like me who are still driving and getting around. We don't want somebody standing over us, but we're able to get help when we need it. "
