The Best Senior Living Communities in Shannon, IL

"I liked WinnPrairie & The Meadows at WinnPrairie, and it was probably my favorite. The lady that showed us was very pleasant, very nice, and very thorough. She also called me to ask if I had any more questions. I liked the place because it was a little larger compared to the other places. They had a 2-bedroom apartment with 2 closets. I could put my computer and a desk in the other bedroom. It has a kitchen with a full-sized refrigerator, a stove, and a microwave. They showed me two rooms - one had storage underneath the microwave and the other one had a roll-in space for a wheelchair. One was nice and handy, but I also might like the storage, so I don't know which I'd rather have. It also had a counter space. They did laundry there with a washer and dryer. They have a room to store your Christmas decorations or whatever you want. The other places didn't have much space to store your stuff in. The entryway was all nice, and it was well-kept and attractive. On the first floor, you could go out and there are a couple of lounge chairs. The second floor had a little balcony. It's not big or fancy, but at least you could go outside from your room."

"I have had many family memebers reside and work at this facility. Aunts and uncles, my mother, and grandmother. I have also had aunts and uncles and great grandparents admites, and I have to say, the employess of this facitlity really care abnout their residents! They take a personal interest in each patient, and try to provide a family feel to the facility. Each employee wants to work there, and you can see it, right down the the cafeteria and cleaning crew. They care about each patient and work hard at providing stellar care! This is a place I'm proud to send our ederly to! "

"I'm a resident of Pearl Pavilion. The place is fine and like most nursing homes. It also has rehab. The appearance of the place is fine. They are in the process of remodeling the first floor and the place is definitely clean. It has close to a hundred residents or maybe less than that. They have activities in the dining room like most other places, like bingo and cards. With regards to the staff, the majority is good, although everyone has different personalities. Some are a little more feeling and caring, while to some it's a job just like any place. I just want someone to smile, to show that you care a little bit."

"My mother has been a resident for approximately 11 yrs and she is very satisfied with Parkview Home. She started out in one of the duplex units and eventually moved into an Independent Living unit in the main building. The staff is very professional and friendly. They especially have been very helpful with her special interests in plants and landscaping. She likes the menu choices in the dining room and they accommodate with any special requests. She likes to eat very healthy foods and she is very satisfied. We think it is an excellent and well run facility at a reasonable price. "

"Parkview is good. I have friends up there too, and I know Freeport well. We found one and two bedroom apartments. They showed me a house too, but I wasn't interested in a house. The space was good. All of the places I think had other spaces in the basement or somewhere in the floor to store out-of-season things. The staff was all nice. Their activities are good too because they are in an area where they can run a bus down to Timber Lake Theater in the summer. They also go over to Rockford and various places, so there are a lot of good activities there. There is plenty of area to walk safely if you wish. "

"Liberty Village of Freeport was very clean, and the staff was very resourceful, helpful, and good for their people. The rooms were very nice. Everything was fine."

"It was a surprise because I know they had apartments, and I thought they had assisted living, but they don't have assisted living within the nursing home. The people in the Doll Apartments had access to the staff in the nursing home. They provide one meal in the community room at noon, they have people come and check on you morning and night, they make sure that you take your medicine, and they have weekly cleaning for you. They have laundry available to you, but you do your own. I think they do your bulky beds and stuff like that. They have both one- and two-bedroom apartments with full kitchens, and the price is great. You can have pets. It's a cost, but I guess my cats worth it. They also have carport parking so that your car is under a roof and sheltered, but not a full garage. You can make appointments at the nursing home for haircuts, manicures, and pedicures, and if you have to go in for surgery you can use respite care and still maintain your apartment. I am on their waiting list and there's no cost for the waiting list. The staff was very familiar with things and very friendly."

"I have enjoyed the time I visit this facility and see the staff interaction with the seniors there. The staff are caring and enjoy their jobs. The therapy is the best and have great results. "

"We've chosen Pinecrest Manor for my father and he will be in the memory care/Alzheimer's unit. I have talked to a lot of people in the community, and I've never heard anything bad about it. For a small town, they provide a lot of services for seniors. The staff was very caring, very easy to talk to, and very accommodating. We're just in the beginning stages, so we haven't talked to a lot of people. It's very easy to get to. It's kind of on the edge of town, so it's a nice location. I have been in to visit other people who were in rehab, but as far as I can tell, things are kept up very nicely and the grounds are very nice. The only thing we've been involved in is the Alzheimer's support group, and we've been very happy with it."

"Oregon Living & Rehabilitation Center always smells clean and fresh when I walk in - the decor is modern and home-like. There are several areas for us to visit with mom - outside of her room. The room is much more spacious than other homes I've been in. The staff seems to enjoy their work - that's very important to me. Lots of smiles and laughter when interacting with each other and the residents. I was even there on a day when the owner was in the building - he seems to really care about the residents safety and comfort - I'm told he visits weekly to stay on top of things- I think that's a HUGE plus as well. We ate lunch with mom one day - it was delicious - tasted like home! The residents are always busy with crafts, games, singing, outings, etc. In a nutshell - it FEELS like home. I wish I was old enough to move in :)"

"The staff seem helpful and able. There is always a competent member of the staff ready to help me if I have a questions. The building looks run down but livable. There is air conditioning in the rooms, a large social area although the patients have to share a room due to limited space. The nurses and doctors create a stable environment for the patients and I have not had an trouble when contacting them. The nurses seem to be able to control even an uncontrollable patient. The doctors are hard to get ahold of but seem to be up to date on their patients. The patients have plenty of opportunity for outside social interactions and trips. The patients have control of a limited amount of money and options for what they want to spend it on. Overall the entire environement makes me feel satisfied with the Tammerlane Health Facility. "

"My family member was a past resident here while recovering from a hip fracture. The Sterling Pavilion is now under new ownership and is now called The Citadel of Sterling. Since my family member was here for about 8 weeks, I can tell you that I witnessed exceptional, personalized care. Citadel of Sterling provides the resident with compassionate care and their therapy here is out of this world amazing. They have state of the art equipment that helped my family member get so strong in such a short period of time. They worked diligently with us to get her where we wanted her... HOME. So friendly, caring and my family member raved about the food and the one on one attention. The building is beautiful, have a brand new outdoor area which is lovely,It is funny because my family member said she was spoiled when she was there, and now has to come home and misses the fun activities and all the friendly faces. I would highly recommend this facility to anyone I know and I can tell you if you live in IOWA or WISCONSIN it is worth placing your loved one here because this place is the BEST!"

"Avonlea Cottage of Sterling is small, but very good, and my mom is very happy there. The place is very clean and very nice inside and outside. I really like the people who are running it. The food is very good and my mom has no complaints whatsoever. My mom goes to an exercise class and there's always something happening there, which is good."
