My father is at Maunalani Nursing & Rehab Center and they are very excellent. They are attentive to his needs, and they ticked off all the boxes as far as I'm concerned. He's in skilled nursing and they have activities all day long every day. They provide everything because he needs assistance with everything, such as showering and getting him his meals. They have a kitchen that serves meals, and he can have whatever he wants to have. If he prefers to wake up and have his breakfast at 6:00 in the morning versus when everyone else has their meals at 7:00, he can have his breakfast at 6:00 a.m. If he chooses not to have something for lunch and prefers something else, they'll prepare something else for him. They're so attentive to his needs. They already know what his likes and dislikes are. They will offer him the things that he likes keeping in mind that he has to be on a special diet. They make sure his meals are balanced, but at the same they are able to offer him the things that he enjoys. His room is very nice. He shares a room with four other men, and it works out very well. It's spacious, and they have a large bathroom with a walk-in shower. The food is good. Before COVID we could go and have a meal and gatherings with Dad. The facility is very clean, spacious, and very safe. It is at the very top of a mountain. It has beautiful views. You can see all over the island from this facility. They have taken measures to make sure that it's safe, and the residents are very secure. He participates in all the activities that they have.

Maunalani Nursing is an exceptional nursing home! Moving our Dad from another nursing home to Maunalani was the best thing we could have done. Our Dad was extremely happy and content there. A shout-out goes to Chona, who went above and beyond to help us with that transition. She was so amazing, caring, and kind! She understood how difficult it was for us being off-island and helped us with all the arrangements. Another goes out to Robin and the nursing staff who were incredibly dedicated, compassionate, and efficient! They helped us through every step of the way with not only understanding the stages of our Dad's condition, but also personally and psychologically gently getting us to a point of acceptance, the importance of telling our Dad it was okay, and saying our final goodbyes. There really is no other nursing home that can hold a candle to Maunalani...simply the best!! We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks for the exceptional care and compassion you provided our Dad. We were so touched by your kindness and support, which helped us through a difficult and stressful time. Thank you! We will never forget and be forever grateful. Mahalo nui loa

Jane Doe suffers greatly from any kind of fragrances. Exposure to fragrances causes her incessant coughing, which leads to her heaving & wanting to throw up. Some of the staff at the care home have not been cooperative with zero fragrance, not believing how severely it affects Jane Doe. There was a state audit done just before Jane got to the home. This Maunalani Rehab Center has about 100 beds so it is quite a large "home." Yesterday, the feds with Medicare came through to audit as well. Since then, the staff has been more cooperative - making sure medications are given on time & ordered on a timely basis. On one occasion, Jane Doe questioned the medication she was given. The nurse said, they didn't have what was prescribed so she substituted something else. Jane called her on it (that she was practicing medicine without a license & not a doctor).

This nursing home is located in a prime location with a pristine view of Honolulu. It has a beautiful building with nice and spacious rooms as well as lots of semi private rooms. The rooms with multiple beds are super spacious and the bathrooms are clean and decently accessible. The staff here are courteous and pretty stable which is a good sign for the care that is provided there. There are many activities provided and many locations where residents can be a part of the group or choose to do individual activities which is rare in many of the nursing homes in Hawaii. The environment is very nice and clean and brightly lit up by natural light. It is also very quiet and healing. A really nice place to recover from an illness or injury.
