"Aunt Carol's Place gave seniors exceptional care, but unfortunately is scheduled to close on October 3, 2019. We had a wonderful 81-year-old who had problems with thyroid, bi-polar and dementia. She was living alone and was abusing her medicines.... taking 30 days of sleeping pills in a 14 day period. Aunt Carol's Place under the leadership of Cristina Wilson got her back on a stable platform with regard to her medicines and it made a world of difference. We were so very sad to learn the home was closing because the standard of care was exceptional. Cristina Wilson has a very big heart and cares so very deeply for her residents, that she sometimes took in people who could not pay, which caused an occasional cash flow problem. Cristina Wilson and her staff are among the very best and the world is hurting with the loss of this wonderful facility. "

"My dad moved into Wyndham Residence. It’s very nice, very comfortable, and home like. It’s not like a fancy 5-star hotel and more like a home. The people at Wyndham Residence are above and beyond anything I’ve ever experienced before. They’re wonderful. The food is excellent and the chef actually makes a point of coming and asking my dad what he would like him to order from the supplier and how he would like it cooked."

"Arroyo Grande Care Center is an excellent place for elderly people. The staff and nurses at the care center are friendly and warm. It is apparent that they really care about their residents, and want to do the best for them. The care center is equipped with a dining hall and activities rooms. The only downfall is that it smells in the center, as most care centers do with elderly patients. It is hard to control the odor of urine, but they do their best to keep up with the cleanliness of the facilities. Overall, the facility is in need of some updating, but it doesn't make a difference, when the staff and nurses are as outstanding as the ones at the Arroyo Grande Care Center. The residents there are of many stages of their elderly lives. Some are very mobile, while others are bed ridden. Some residents have weekly visitors, while others have no visitors at all. Regardless, all are treated with utmost respect and kindness. "

"I'm enjoying Alder House. They take good care of me. There are many good caring workers here. They don't have anything beyond single rooms, but my room can accommodate all my furniture. They charge standard rate depending on the size of the room and not depending on the amount of care. They differ from other assisted living places. You pay a certain rate per month. It doesn't change except for a small change for inflation. That's an advantage here. I'm very satisfied with it. I have looked around to see if there are other things, and so far, it looks like I'm in a best place."

"My friend went to a small facility called The Park Grove - San Luis Obispo. It was a 6-bed facility, and they were fantastic. Their assessment was excellent, and the care was above and beyond. It made her final days as comfortable as could possibly be made. A couple works there and runs the place, and I can't give them high enough regards. They were just so accommodating and so organized. They said if there was no news, it was good news, and if there was news, then they would text me. They had great communication skills and just fabulous. Everything about the facility was fantastic. They cook, and they do it all. They were just so dedicated. It made her transition as peaceful as possible. I went to four facilities in person and did a virtual tour of one, so a total of five, and Park Grove was the least expensive and had the most personal one-on-one care. I had such a good feeling from the owners that it was the best place for her that I could find."

"The therapists at Mission View Health Center were very good, and the aides were very helpful. The staff was very attentive and treated us well. One of my therapists downloaded some apps for me, like puzzles to work on my memory and cognitive skills. Some days, the food was very good, but other days, it was fair. The nice thing was that you can request certain things. I talked to the nutritionist and told her how I missed yogurt, so right away, she sent me yogurt and had it in every meal since then. They fed you regularly right on time. They had two different outdoor areas, and I usually went to the smaller one because it was right off of my room. It had a small garden and a little koi pond. It looked very pleasant, especially at sunset."

"I thought that Sydney Creek (The Village at Sydney Creek) was very high quality. I was very impressed, and we were very happy with the organization. We were going to actually place my mom there. Their dining area and food were very high quality. The rooms were really wonderful and definitely very spacious. They had activities like music and art, and they had a community gathering time, which was wonderful. My mom enjoyed that. I liked that they were highly knowledgeable about the process of Alzheimer's and dementia. They had a very highly skilled facility list of 5-1 ratio of caregivers, and they had many activities that were very patient-oriented and individually-oriented. It was just overall exceptional facility. "

"The facility was clean and the meals were wonderful and on time. The staff was professional. The rooms offered variety as far as living conditions and they were well furnished. The doctors and nurses were available. The medications were given as ordered. The garden area was well kept. The television was not too loud or on too long. The activities were well planned. This is a place that I would not be worried about placing one of my own family members. They are very nice to visitors and willing to answer questions. The location is quiet and peaceful, yet close enough to down town, the hospital and shopping. The residents were well cared for in my opinion. I also liked the fact that it was not too large. This way it was not noisy and the residents were not overwhelming for the staff. They did not loose items that belonged to the residents. "

"My mother stayed at San Luis Transitional Care for several months. I love that place. The rooms entered onto a center open area/common area, so that if you're in your room, you could still be in the main part of the facility and shut your door if you wanted. There was a roommate situation. It had outdoor patios on each room, so that I could take her out and you could sit outside and go for walks on their concrete walkways and wheelchairs and walkers were very easily used. There was a big glass door in each room. There were two main areas on either end and then the nursing staff was in the middle. They had physical therapy every day except for Sunday and dog and cat groups visited. They had bingo and activities in the evening after dinner. They had special movie nights with popcorn, and Sundays they had ice cream day. Ahead of time you could order lunch and eat with your parents. I had an issue with one of the nurses; she was not happy with the fact that I was calling so often and interrupting her rounds and she would not call me back. They got annoyed with me. I liked the building itself because it wasn't big. They're only a 50-patient facility, so it makes it easier for the nursing staff to give more time and more attention. They had someone who fell and hit their head and had to go to the hospital, but their nursing staff was spread so thin."

"My sister has moved into Vista Rosa. My first impression was good. It's very nice. They have a beauty salon, and they can get their nails done. The staff are very nice. They're very expensive. I think they're the most expensive place in San Luis Obispo."

"My mother is in The Villages. They try hard to keep all the people happy, but I think they can use a little more staff. The rooms and the apartments are very nice, and the food is good. The people are very nice and courteous. There are a lot of people there, and they are kind of doing numerous jobs. I think it will be nice if they have one person that is kind of in-charge and monitoring how the residents are going along. If they have like a social worker that can talk to them, not necessary be taking care of their immediate needs like medicine, dressing or that kind of thing, but just their psychological needs or they are just concerned. "
