"Homewood at Martinsburg is excellent and their activities are amazing. The director of the activities is very engaging. I feel like my aunt has adapted very well. When my aunt cannot lock the door, I called the nurses and they are there immediately. My aunt has a small room but the other rooms are larger. It’s very clean too. "

"We have placed my husband’s mother in Valley View Retirement Community. She has only been there a few weeks. It’s further away from us but the cost was about $3,000 less a month than the places around the area where we live. It’s more rural but aside from that, the people were very caring and very personable; the place is extremely clean and everyone appeared to be really well cared for. They had very professional staff on hand. They had the doctor come in and look at her right away and evaluate her. They have physical therapist and occupational therapist come in and evaluate her and set her off with a program so they were very proactive about her care. The place looks like home; it doesn’t look like a sterile hospital environment even though they could provide all the services of a hospital. You felt like it was a comfortable home so we liked the feel and the looks of it. We like the people, professionalism, just everything about the place. Getting her in a place like that for less money was a bonus. I would definitely recommend this place. "

"My sister is at The Village at Morrisons Cove. She's in independent living, but she gets some assistance. It's been wonderful. They were very informative and contacted me right back. They go from assisted to more assisted and then to nursing, so it's like a three-level step. They have the very independent living there. Then they go to another kind of apartment where they can have some assistance, such as with medication, other reminders, or assistance with meals. Then they go to a higher level of need, such as more nursing or more elderly care. It is why I chose that one. In other words, she doesn't have to move. She's in that same facility. She remembers everybody, and she has the same people taking care of her. The care is really good, and the facility is clean. They're very professional, and they have real nurses on-staff, not just med techs."

"My dad was at Presbyterian Village at Hollidaysburg and it was very nice. They had different levels; that was what made it so nice. They had different houses. If you need assistance, they have caretakers. It was a big place. If your health goes down, you can move into their assisted living place. There was a hospital right there beside them. They had different sitting rooms. The rooms were pretty nice, too. The staff was really wonderful. I cannot say enough about them. They took care of my dad like he was their relative. "

"My mother was admitted to a nursing home when her Alzheimer started to get progressively worse. With only her well being in mind we did research and choose Garvey Manor as a logical choice for her stay. The home is located very close to Altoona, a major shopping center in PA so when we took her out for breaks we did not have to go far. Every time we visited we are constantly told how great the food was over and over and over again. I found the home to be less jail like compared to over assisted living homes. My mother had very much freedom and everyone there was so nice. Her nurse, Nancy, was amazing. Very personable and knew all of us by name after the first week. It was truly a pleasure to be able to deal with such a great group of people who obviously loved helping others. I hope my kids have the decency to find me somewhere like Garvey Manor if I ever need to be put in a home. "

"My wife is a resident at Graystone Court and I can not imagine a home with a more caring and efficient staff. The home itself is beautiful with oil paintings on the walls and it's free of the odors most homes seem to have. My wife's room is at the end of the hall, but because of the homes size it is within easy walking distance for me and I have a problem walking. I just can't say enough good things about the employees and the care my wife is receiving. "

"I had an in-person tour of the Colonial Courtyard at Tyrone. It was a nice experience. It seemed like a nice facility. The room was nice. It had a twin bed, a nightstand, a sink, a small fridge, a microwave, a walk-in shower, and a bathtub. The staff was very good. She showed us everything and took the time to answer questions."

"Olivia Village Assisted Living Residence is a very small and family-owned community. They made you feel like you're a person, not a number. My dad is in a private room, but they also have shared rooms to offer. They can go outside for walks, have bingo nights, a therapist and a doctor that comes in, a cafeteria area, and several different TV rooms. Plus, you can have a TV in your own room. It's laid out the same as everybody else. There's a long hallway with rooms off each side and the dining area. Then there are a couple of different community rooms. The staff is very good. My dad's been satisfied with the food as well."

"Epworth Manor was very clean and newly remodeled. My mother-in-law was well taken care of. The meals were good. She was very happy there. "

"I thought the staff was good at Altoona Center. He had a private room, and it was very nice. It had a nice bed, a little sitting area, and a TV. I was pleased with it. My dad said the food was good. The dining room was small, but it was fine. It was a smaller facility. "

"I made a couple of visits to the Hollidaysburg Veterans Home. My grandmother used to stay there. The staff was really nice. There were plenty of people there so it was well staffed. The facility was really simple, but it's clean and kept up. The administration was nice and helpful. It's a really good place. They emphasize the hominess of the community. They have transportation, and they'll get them outside of the community for different activities."

"My impression of The Winds At Mattern Orchard was good. Their rooms were nice and there's also a courtyard with gardens. There are various activities the residents can do. The food was very good and the staff was very friendly and helpful."
