I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My friend's husband is at Sun City West. They don't know how to handle the areas that they need to improve on, like how they handle dementia residents, and they don't have much in the way of activities for them. They give them their medicine on time and they keep their rooms clean, but other than that, I don't have any positive things to say about them. The memory care is one floor. It is a hallway off of the main building. There are two elevators, because the assisted living is three floors. I don't think they let them go outside at all in memory care. They have a dining room there, and if you're in memory care, unless someone can come and get you, they bring their meals back to the memory care area. They don't eat with the general population. The staff is trying. Most of them walked out in December and they're totally understaffed, but those that are there work really hard. They just don't have enough people.

Sun City West Assisted Living is not all its cracked up to be. Looks good on the outside, but the care on the inside in not what they say it is going to be. And if we complain, they act like we are just making things up. And, the executive director is never available. She is in one long perpetual meeting all day every day. They charged us and told us my dad needed three people for his care. Dont think they ever used that many people at one time to help him do anything. He just laid in bed or sat in his wheelchair and rang a broken penant they gave him for someone to come take care of his needs. No one came for at least 15 minutes when we were there. A lot can happen in 15 minutes. Several times we came in unexpectedly and found him sitting in his wheel chair facing a wall or a blank screen on the tv. They couldnt be bothered with using the three people to lift him into his nice comfortable recliner. He either was left in bed or wheelchair all the time. He finally had to have hospice out to take care of him for a week before he died. All in all, this assisted living was the worst choice we ever made in our lives. Forgot to say, my dad was owed money from a time when he was in rehab and was charged full price for room and care. Shannon promised around $800 back. I tried to call her and she avoided all 6 calls I made. Just another reason to avoid this place

My dad was at Sun City West. We toured it pretty quickly, and then we just placed my dad because we just had to get him in somewhere. My first impression was that everything was nice. The residents seemed happy. They were moving around all over the place. They were pretty active. It's really hot out there, so not a lot of people were outside, but they have a very nice backyard patio type of area. There were three different floors, and each floor had something a little different. My dad was on the third floor, and they had a little kitchen area. There was a birdcage with one bird, and the residents talked to the bird all the time. There was a table where there was always a puzzle. The second floor had a gym and a theater, which was nice and a pretty good size. The staff members were caring. They could have made some improvements, like using more walkie-talkies to talk to each other. Instead, they had phones that didn't always work. The front door did not always close and lock. We would come and visit my dad around 7:00 because we were busy doing stuff, and we could just walk right in. There was nobody at the front, so the security wasn't that great. There were a couple of times that we weren't sure if the staff was lying to us. We'd be there once on a Saturday, and my dad said he hadn't had a shower since Tuesday. And they said he had a shower the other day, and we're like, "That's not what he said." We never saw anybody cleaning his room with a mop or anything. His room was really small, and we asked for a screen because he doesn't sleep in the bed. He sleeps in his recliner, and the air conditioner was blasting right on him, and he didn't like that. It was going to cost $35 to put up a little plexiglass thing, so we had to put in a work order. We had to set up everything, so I don't know what the maintenance guy did because I rarely saw him. The pillars that were in the dining area always looked like they needed to be repainted or fixed. The people have their wheelchairs or walkers, so the edges of the walls were always being banged up against, and instead of putting a little barrier, it was just left that way. The food wasn't that great. When we first got there, some of the kitchen staff would come out with sweatshirts and not look very professional. Nobody looked happy. But they were making changes as we were getting ready to leave. Everybody was wearing the same uniform, and they were looking a little more professional. They had happy hours, music, games, and baking. They kept the residents busy.

I visited this facility

We went to Sun City West Assisted Living, and I didn't care for that. There was one resident that was in her wheelchair in the middle of the room, her sock was falling off, and she was just sitting there reading a book I think. The person that we did the tour with, she couldn't answer all of the questions that we had, and they were pretty simple questions for somebody that had been there that long. It just seemed like she could have answered our questions without talking to somebody else. They were in the middle of redoing the carpets and stuff like that. It looks nice on the outside, the inside seems old, and they have like those, I think they're called p-trap air conditioning units, instead of everybody having regular central air.

We visited Brookdale Sun City West Sandridge and liked it. The rooms that they showed us were clean and spacious. At the time we were there, they didn't have any activities going on. The staff was friendly, courteous, and knowledgeable. They had a library, dining room, activities room, and an exercise room. The place itself was well-maintained.

My stepfather was released with short notice from a rehabilitation facility after suffering a stroke. In spite of the short notice, the administrative and nursing staff were able to get both my parents transferred, settled and all medical issues dealt with in the most helpful and efficient manner. It took a huge burden of me and my sibblings and we can't thank the entire staff of Brookdale Sandridge enough.

Everything at Brookdale Sun City West Sandridge is running smoothly. It's a nice facility. The staff and the manager seem to be very nice. I walked around because I was looking for my friend's room, and everybody seemed pretty happy, doing well, and being taken care of well. The activities looked very nice. My friend likes it. It's clean-looking, everybody seems happy doing their own thing, and when you walk in, it's friendly and they weren't hustling and bustling around being too busy to do anything. It was just really relaxed.

We chose Brookdale Sun City West Sandridge because it is close to us, comfortable, and had very friendly, open staff who explained everything. They came over and interviewed my sister-in-law and were sure that she would be a good fit. I thought it was very nice. The food is very good, and the services are great. We are very happy with it.

Brookdale Sun City West is very good. The administrator, and the nursing-staff were accommodating with my request. The rooms are pretty basic. I tasted the food. One day it is good, and one day not so much; but my aunt seems to like it. I will recommend them to others.

What I liked about Brookdale Sun City West Sandridge (Formerly Freedom Inn at Sun City West) was that it was furnished. My mom hasn't told me of any activities, as she is not really into the whole system yet. However, the staff appears good, and they've been able to transfer her to the doctor. It is very clean, and they have three meals there.

We were able to enjoy the full tour as well as lunch at Brookdale Sun City West. I was quite impressed with it because it fit more of what we were looking for. It has the independent living as well as the assisted living if you needed it. The lady that we had made the appointment with had been called to a meeting, so her assistant took us around, and she was very personable. She showed us all the amenities, and she was very helpful. The rooms were more livable. They were quite comfortable. The dining area was kind of open and bright. It was very pretty. From the moment we entered their door, the people made comments like, “You’re going to love it here!” That was a very positive statement to hear from someone who lives there.

I went to Brookdale in Sun City West. It is nice. You walk in, and it is really very nice. The tour was fine, but compared with the other places, it is not. Brookdale's people were very nice. It seems to be nice. It needed to be updated, but not when you walk in. The rooms and things needed to be updated.

Freedom Inn Sun City West had a very hospital-like atmosphere. The rooms were small and the ceilings were too high. The place was spotless and the people were nice. There were some things I liked, for instance the courtyard in the middle. But it did not feel very homey for me and the price was very high.

We had a tour at Freedom Inn, and it was assisted living and way above our budget. I was looking for independent with an assisted living option when I needed it. We were not really impressed with the layout of the room because it's assisted living.

Freedom Inn was very clean and was more updated. The marketing staff was very accommodating to set up a tour and a visit, and let me talked to the head nurse, because I was concern about that. The rooms were nice, and I liked the setup. It didn't have a lot of kitchen area, which I think is a wasted area in assisted living because they have their meals provided. They have daily exercise classes, memory classes, lots of music, and entertainment. I like its appearance. But my parents probably would have to live in separate room.

I came into Brookdale for a tour of Freedom Inn Sun City West. From walking up the building, I was impressed from the friendly, happy faces of the residents smiling. Meeting the staff was absolutely friendly, kind, and warm. One of the most beautiful buildings i have seen! Thank you for making me feel welcome!

Other

My Mother and a few others I know or have known have lived /stayed at this facility. While my Mother was there, I spent the last 2 weeks with her ( I had knee replacement surgery) until I was able to get both of us back home. Staff was great. I was in a dilemma not being able to go home on my own and they set it up so I shared my Mother's room until I could take us both home. I now reccomend this facility to others. In my book, they get an A plus or 6 stars.. Family and friends are treated well when they are visiting. I have been to other places and Freedom Inn Is one of the best.

I visited this facility

This is a must see facility, I was very impressed with this facility when I went to visit. I had to visit because I was trying to locate a facility for one of my family members. First of all, the facility looks like a newer facility. The landscaping was really nice. While myself and husband were driving there we had a chance to see many other elderly people that lived at the facility along with those who lived in towned. I really like the city of surprise because it's like an retirement community, it's not too big or small. I knew it was a very safe place because I saw many of the elderly people driving around in golf carts cars, which I thought was really nice. Now, back to the facility, the appearance was really nice and clean in the inside. The staff members greeted us at the door and made us feel like we were at home. They took us on a tour and I was very impressed because the facility was spacious. Once they told me about all the different activities that my family member could do, we were ready to bring her in for an tour to see if she would like. She enjoys living at this facility and you can't go wrong. She was nervous the first night of staying, but the staff members were able to keep her company. And within a few days she had plenty of friends.
