"Skyline Village at Red Mountain is a nice facility, but they're doing a little work there right now. The manager who assisted me was nice and helpful. They don't have a stove, but there is a refrigerator and a microwave in the apartment. They have a grassy area and a picnic area, so they have outdoor spaces, too."

"My mom moved into Town Village Vestavia Hills. We like that she could have a one-bedroom with a full kitchen, and it is handicap accessible everywhere. There's a small community for seniors and adults with lots of activities, limited transportation provided, and three meals a day if my mom chooses to eat what's provided. They have lots of activities, and it's a good value for what we're paying."

"I toured Monark Grove at Greystone. It was awesome. It was nice. The lady was nice. We had a good conversation. She showed me around every place and everything. We looked at some apartments. Everything is good. They have everything, a stove, a refrigerator, and all that stuff. The bedroom was fine. My main concern was having enough room for all my stuff because I have a lot of stuff, and the one I saw was big enough. They've got a patio with an outdoor grill. They also have an indoor pool. When I went by, I said, "Did anything go in there?", and she said, "No, it's a low-level pool, it's only so many feet, and it's not like the regular pool". So that was cool."

"I moved my 92 year old uncle from his home of 60 years to Covenant Place last year. They took incredible care of him the year he was in their care. They provided his meals, cleaning, laundry, continence care, medications, etc. They even helped get him to his appointments when I was unable to leave work. So much of the caregiver burden was eased for me while he was in their care. The staff really goes above and beyond with care and compassion. The communication was always top notch as well. Not once did I ever feel left out of the loop. Their activities director, Jillian, is an absolute gem! I largely credit his happiness there to her and her efforts to encourage and include him. I cannot say enough positive things about our overall experience!"

"I went to Legacy Ridge Trussville and spoke with a gentleman there, and he was very helpful. I'm very impressed with the place. They have a large assisted living facility as well as memory care. My mom has dementia, and memory care was what I was looking for. The rooms were very well maintained. I think they were the right size because you don't need a really large room. They actually had their own bathroom in each room. The dining room was very nice. They had a lot of tables and chairs set up. They have an activity room also. They actually have a person who is in charge of the activities for the people in the memory care facility. They try to engage everybody as well as can be expected. The way I see it, they're striving really hard to be perfect. They were very friendly and very knowledgeable. To me, they had the knowledge and the desire to try to take care of the patients. They had plenty enough parking, I think, and it wasn't crowded."

"Asher Point Independent Living of Hoover is a nice facility. The manager who gave the tour was a nice man. He's also very helpful. They have a facility that is sort of a restaurant, and it's really nice. I think three meals a day are also included there. They have a refrigerator and a microwave in the apartment. However, I didn't like the fact that they didn't have a stove or anything like that, because I'm a pretty good cook. I can understand why they don't have those, though, because a lot of these people are elderly, and when they walk away from a stove for a minute, they burn up. Other than that, it's a very nice building and it's clean."

"The Crossings at Riverchase was very clean. The staff looked very well-mannered. The rooms were nicely appointed. They have services available for the residents and activities for them to be involved in. The dining room was well-appointed. The facility was very nice."

"My brother is a resident at Pleasant Villa, and couldn't be more pleased. It is exceptionally clean and just been refurbished, looks great. The owner and staff are so accommodating; they are very caring. If my brother needs to go to the doctor, etc. they are glad to take him. Excellent choice!"

"I visited the Gardens of Pelham. I was very impressed with it. It was very professional. I got a very good tour. They explained how everything worked. I was satisfied with the way it was set up. They showed me the rooms and the different levels of care they had, took me to the cafeteria, where the clients lived, and showed me how they provided different care for them. They explained to me about the social workers and the other medical personnel who came out for them while they were there. It was good. It just wasn't a good fit for my husband. The facility was pretty and looked homey. It looked like whoever would be there would enjoy it."

"I thought Maplewood Lane Assisted Living was a very homey place. The staff that I met there were all very cordial. There's one lady that's been working there for 27 years and she was just as great as she could be. We had a very honest conversation about what would be required to get my friend in. It's an assisted living so the rules were a little different. It's able to handle folks in a wheelchair, push them for their showers, and even out the front door to sit in the sunshine on the porch. They have physical therapy 2 or 3 times a week, and a Bible study twice a week. It was just a very homey place and I had known somebody that had been there before and was happy there. It's small and homey and they said they work very hard to make it that way. The lady friend that I was trying to look for, still has issues in terms of her mobility like when going to the bathroom and that kind of stuff. The small room is really small, a little smaller than other folks' studio rooms, but the assistance they were saying they gave folks, in terms of bathing and showering, seemed right up to par with everybody else. The one who toured me around was the man that owns the place. He didn't have to show me around a lot because I've been there, in the room of the friend that used to be there. He didn't do a whole lot of showing around. He just showed me where the room was and showed me the difference between the smallest room and the next one. I had been in the larger one with my friend before, and of course, the price goes up with every increase in size. There were folks in the big kitchen, working on supper. There's a piano there and while I was talking to him, somebody came and played it, and that kind of brought all the other folks out. I think they only had two rooms empty, and they both were small. It would take a little getting used to, but it's all that my friend needs. The person who toured me also said that if one goes into a small room and a larger one becomes available, they automatically will switch that person up. It was clean and the layout is great because they have straight halls. The halls are also wooden so that even if you're in a wheelchair, you could navigate them easily. One side of the windows looks over a little lake so it's a nice surrounding. There's also a government building or something across the street, and they've got a nice front to it where folks could sit. They said they were going to be adding something on the back, a covered porch, or something like that."

"My mom is at the skilled nursing area of St. Martin's In the Pines. I like that it is a cottage type setting with only ten residents per floor. All the meals are cooked there, and they've got a large gathering room with reclining chairs, a fireplace, a huge kitchen, a dining room, and screened-in porch. It's like living in a home instead of being in a traditional nursing home. Thus far, the staff has been very caring. Their ratio is five patients to one care provider, plus they have an RN 24 hours a day, and so far, the care has been good. They've only been open to visitors for ten days now because of COVID, which is how most of the places are, and as far as cost, their price is in line with everybody else."

"This is an excellent nursing home. CNA's work hard to make the residents comfortable and clean. They know what they're doing. The LPN's and RN's are experienced, mature and professional. All employees are certified in Basic Life Support (CPR). I stand nothing to gain from this evaluation."

"I like everything about the Kirkwood by the River memory care unit. There were a lot of activities going on and a lot of happy people and residents. I saw so many friendly staff, they had a chapel inside and it was just very well organized. Even one of the owners was there, interacting with the residents. I met the chaplain and it just seemed that everyone was just super, super friendly. The staff was very hands-on with the residents, very happy in their jobs, and seem to love the residents. They're going through a renovation, adding some memory care units. The rooms were rather small and needed to be updated, and that's what they're going to do. It was very clean."
