"We toured The Glenn Hopkins yesterday. The gentleman who gave the tour, his name was Scott. He knew the names of all the residents that we came into contact with, he knew everything there was about their facility and the programs that they offer. It was clean. It had a lot to offer. The only thing, the residents were maybe a little older than what we were trying to place my mom with. She felt at the younger end of that spectrum, but it just seemed like a fantastic facility for those needing maybe a little more care than the traditional independent living, nothing but good things to say, it probably wasn't for us for that reason that I said. Everybody was very friendly and welcoming, and it looked like a great community."

"Memory Care unit is newly remodeled, light and airy. The rooms are basic and clean. The staff is caring, competent, attentive and kind. They know each of the residents particular needs, likes and dislikes. There are many opportunities for activities and socializing. I am always able to contact someone when needed. The management, as well as the aids/nurses are available to support the resident's family."

"My husband has advanced Parkinson's and has been attending Mt Olivet Day Services for ten years. The facility is clean, cheerful and spacious. The staff is wonderful and their turnover very low. Field trips, fun activities that provide physical and mental stimulation, guest speakers and entertainers, excellent meals and bathing are provided. The staff takes special care to communicate with the families of participants and to provide for the participants' special needs. Mount Olivet Day Services also includes a childcare component in the same building and there are many activities that bring the children and the "Grandmas and Grandpas" together. My husband and I regard this program as dear family. "

"Overall the facility is nice. It is kept up well and things always looked very clean. I never heard any complaints on bugs or the conditions. The staff was always friendly and helpful however many do not speak English as their first language and my grandmother stated always having trouble understanding likely due to the language barrier and also to her and the other residents depleting hearing. They have always been very flexible with my family regarding changes to my grandmother's needs and if she is a little late returning home for the evening after visits. Overall, my grandmother and my family are very happy with the continued experience we've had with Walker Methodist. When you hear lot's of stories about the poor treatment of the elderly you can only hope to find a place that lives up to your expectations. "

"It was new and wonderful. I received very good information. However, they did not have a kitchen in every room or apartment. They had everything else. You could garden. The gentleman that toured me was wonderful. They had one kitchen to share among the people on the floor with a big fridge, microwave, and sink. "

"When my family first visited we were given a tour of certain floors, certain residential rooms, and activity areas. We all agreed that it was a good safe place for grandma. However after she was excepted we had to wait a week before visiting and when I went to visit she was sitting alone in the hallway and said she had been there for more than an hour by herself. The floor she was on had a stench of urine. She shared a room with another resident that she didn't get along with and somehow her dentures were lost.It was a horrible experience for my grandmother as well as the rest of my family. And it was almost impossible to re-place her in another facility because we had such strong complaints about previous. Not many other facilities wanted a family that was going to be so assertive about the way residents are cared for. Overall after visiting a few other homes I found that the first two floors are always the nicest and those are the ones that a family gets to tour. "

"I found the development to be very well staffed for the amount of patients that were there. The patients received schedules for their daily activities, including time for activities such as occupational therapy, physical therapy, speech therapy, swimming, acupuncture, lunch, dinner, and more. I remember a couple patients had trouble reading and understanding their schedules, and also noticed the schedule sometimes was incorrect or not accurately communicated with me as a volunteer. With the exception of a few members of the staff, I did not feel very close or remembered with my weekly volunteering. Perhaps that was due to them having many volunteers, so I may have been seen as expendable. I was providing a lot of help to the patient however, so my time there was rewarding. The facility itself was magnificent. I was amazed with the building and with what was offered for disabled individuals. There are activities rooms with games, books and movies, common areas with television, laundry areas for those able and wanting to do their own, and a beautiful pathway to walk around outside with a quiet stream. The facility was well kept, clean, and well lit. Nursing staff seemed to always be readily available to patients and communicated with them on a friendly basis. "

"Adult Day Program at MN Veteran's Home RN and social worker on the staff. Many different activities going on every day, daily exercise group, field trips, entertainment, movies with popcorn (recliner chairs, too), breakfast and lunch with nice area to eat lunch outside on nice days. Multiple activities of shorter duration (for those with shorter attention spans). The director is visible and interacts with the participants. Beautiful grounds and really nice old building. They offer spa bath weekly. Participants wear a sort of GPS device so staff knows where they are at all times- good safety measure for those with dementia. "

"Catholic Eldercare on Main is a well-kept, clean, and professionally run facility. The staff is very good. The room my father is in right now has a TV. They provide a bed, a built-in closet, and a lounge chair. The food is pretty good. They have a foyer or a reception area and you take the elevator up to the second floor where he's at. They have many activities as well."

"My brother moved to Apple Valley Village's independent living community, and the staff members are very nice. He's in a 1-bedroom apartment. If somebody has a wheelchair or something, then the bathroom might be small. Other than that, I think it's a really nice setup, and the bedroom and the living room are a good size. There is room for a small kitchen table if you don't have the bar that comes up from the cupboard, where you can put two chairs in. He has a small, 36-inch round drop-leaf table, a loveseat, and a recliner in there. There's a little patio you can sit on outside where you can probably put at least two chairs and a little tiny table. The kitchen is set up really nicely, too. The microwave is above the stove and has sprinkler heads, so if you have a fire on your stove, it puts it out right away. They just redid that, and that's a nice feature. You can eat so many meals a month. For instance, we signed my brother up for 20 meals for supper. The residents go up to the fifth floor for that, and it's like going into a nice restaurant. They have all-white tablecloths and servers that come out to give you your food. In the lower level, they also have an area where they play a lot of cards and different things. There is a little deli-like place down there, too, where you can go and get breakfast, a sandwich, or something for lunch. They have a little room there that has shelf-stable groceries that residents can get. Let's say you need a can of tomato soup, then you'll probably find it down there. It's not really big, but at least you have some things there. I think they might even have bread. I know they don't have milk and eggs because they don't have a cooler system down there. They have a movie room with a big TV where you can go watch movies. They have some exercise equipment, like treadmills, that you can use while you watch a movie if you want. On the second floor, they have a library and an area with all kinds of books and puzzles. On the other end is an outdoor patio with tables and umbrellas out in the summer. They have a lot of stuff going on. I know that a couple of days a week, they have somebody who is a beautician or a barber who comes in. The residents have to pay on their own. They have a musical group, or they have time when they get together, and they sing old-fashioned songs, and a lady directs and plays the ukulele. They have outings every day to different places, and they always have something to do. When you first come in the door, there's a round table and a big chandelier up above. On either side, they have couches and chairs, like a lounge area where people can come and sit. Right behind that table, they have their front desk, and it's pretty big and open. Behind that are the elevators to go up and down. Everything that you do as a group, like going to eat your meals or going downstairs and going on any of the floors, is centered around the elevator. They have a laundry area there, so you can do your own laundry, or, like some people, you can have it done. They don't have it individually in the apartments."

"I toured Bentson Family Assisted Living Residence. The apartments there would have allowed me to live with my wife, and I thought I wanted to do that, but I'm not so sure now. The apartments were sumptuous. There were one-and-a-half bedrooms, and two bedrooms, and those were very good. Those were for limited care, and they included the spouse. As far as the limited care facilities, it looked very, very good. That whole wing had very nice apartments, and I know that their staffing was good. The building was absolutely fine with regard to upkeep."

"My mother was a patient here for a few weeks before she passed away. The compassionate care by the staff was exemplary. We have wonderful memories during that very difficult time. My daughter stayed over one night towards the end and I was there the night before she passed. We are still talking about the caring nurses during those nights. She was agitated and they knew just what to say to my mom to calm her. It was so wonderful to hear that. And by the way, the nurses thought we were sleeping! I can't forget to mention the day nurses who also knew just what to say to her to comfort her. Two unforgettable aides....it was a very difficult day and this male aide came into the family room and hugged all of us. Now how awesome was that! Then there was this one aide who towards the end was feeling so emotional as my mom was nearing the end that she had tears in her eyes. Now that meant a lot knowing she was sharing our pain. Thank you to all your wonderful staff Lake Ridge. You're the best! "

"I have toured the Open Circle of Buffalo adult day service. I met four staff members and the director, and they had an answer for every question I had. It's all kind of one room. There's like a living room area and a large family room kind of thing that they can do all their activities out there, and then there's a kitchen and an outdoor area. There's a nice area there to sit. They've got the big dining table, so everybody would sit together, family style. There is a garden that has raised beds. The activity board is stacked, and you can do everything on there, or you can do nothing. The day I was there, they had taken a group of people over to the fishing dock and gotten a pontoon and taken people fishing. While they were doing that, another bus of ladies went garage selling around town. There's stuff planned. If somebody says, "I heard this was going on. Could we go do that?" If a couple of people want to do that, they load up the bus, and they go. The staff was fantastic."
