My father was hospitalized from his assisted living before Christmas for failure to thrive. He was no longer eating and rapidly deteriorated. We knew he couldn't tolerate a feeding tube for various issues so multiple doctors advised hospice. We could not discharge him until we had a hospital bed for him and Gentiva was recommended, but they were a huge mistake. After my father was discharged, they sent doctors to assess him who determined "he didn't need hospice care" AFTER providing the bed and discharging him from the hospital. I struggled to find new hospice providers while my dad further deteriorated and ultimately died yesterday. My sister, who is handicapped, and I were able to visit him the day before he died, but Gentiva's bed was in the way and my sister could not get her wheelchair close to our father. Gentiva added unnecessary stress and emotionally enraging experiences to my already distraught family.

Gentiva Hospice has a full-time nurse that comes twice a week and a CNA three times a week. They help with bathing, dressing, changing mom, and just her basic needs. Then there are also chaplain service and social service workers. They have a very excellent administrative team and they have been working diligently to have my mom's best interests. They reordered new medical equipment for her that would not have been covered under her previous insurance, but we were able to get her more of the things that she needed. Even if she doesn't need it immediately, like oxygen for example, we have a standby in case we need it. So, there are a lot of services that they offer that would have not normally been covered under regular insurance. The people are very professional and very thorough. They have been a great help to us on so many levels.
