My husband has been in four different facilities that were all awful and some of those made him worse, but when I went up to Upstate Community Hospice House, I liked it. It's small. It only has 18 places for 18 residents and the nursing staff has been there for a while. They don't have any turnover. The nurses are nice to you. They smile at you and they carry out a conversation. This place seems like they care for your loved one and you as the family. That's what I was looking for and I finally found it when my husband is placed there. The facility is beautiful. They have places where you can sit outside and everything. There's no gate around. They got a rock in the middle that's got water in it. They have a sanctuary, a piano, and everything so that they can do a funeral there without the family having to transport them. It's very clean. You don't smell any at all. Just that my husband won't eat their food and he's losing weight and now I'm having to take him food. A lot of times it's not warm. I have had to tell them to go heat it back in, but I usually get there at lunch to help feed him and everything.
