When my family couldn't provide enough help to my mom to keep her safe at home, we hired A Way to Stay. My husband and I work and are active with family and church. For many years our children, my husband and I would pop in to check on my elderly mom who lives near us. We'd do shopping, get her to appointments, clean, and do whatever else she needed. We honored my 80+ year old mother's desire to be independent and remain in the home where she raised us. Initially it was okay but three years ago mom started calling more frequently and seemed confused when she called. She wasn't eating and bathing as much and becoming more and more agitated. We saw bruises on her hands, legs and face and knew she was falling but not telling us. She didn't break anything so we let it go although her doctor pointed out the bruises and asked what happened. Mom never had a good answer. Something had to be done so every evening I'd come over after work and made sure mom had a shower and clothes picked out for the next day. I didn't know anyone I could trust to help with my mom so found a company that would do a few hours in the morning and evening. Different people came on each visit and sometimes no one at all. We couldn't depend on such erratic care. When I found A Way to Stay, we didn't know what kind of care would work for mom. Devon suggested live-in care and I'd never thought we needed someone to live with my mom and I didn't know if my mom would be open to the idea. I told mom that in order to stay home she needed to have someone live with her... the first month was rocky with Mom being so confused and she was a little nasty to the caregiver at times. But after that it worked out. Jessica was a great match for my mom. She was gentle, kind, and patient with Mom's outbursts. Jessica tells my mom jokes or funny stories to relax her, and somehow gets her to bathe and eat. Jessica got Mom to trust her and sometimes when I came over and try to help, Mom tells me she didn't want my help, she wanted Jessica. My whole family loves A Way to Stay and Jessica. I don't worry about whether or not Mom is being taken care of or if a caregiver is going to show up or not. A Way to Stay and their team make my life and Mom's better.

A Way to Stay has been by our family’s side twice. The first time our family met A Way to Stay, my aunt, Sue, called them to take care of my grandmother. Aunt Sue retired to take care of my grandmother who had diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, and cataracts. Things were alright for sometime until my grandmother got really frail, couldn’t really walk due to the crippling pain of the arthritis, and worsening eyesight. Aunt Sue was advised by her doctor that if she couldn’t manage things on her own she should look into outside assistance to help her with Grandmom. Aunt Sue found A Way to Stay online and called them to see what they could do. Well, she lucked out on because after talking with Devon, she knew that this company was the one. A Way to Stay came in daily for about 4 hours a day at first; but when it was obvious that Grandmom was getting worse, they were there 24-hours a day. Aunt Sue and Devon really clicked. Devon was even there some hours to help when staff called out or got sick. All of the caregivers became apart of our family. Aunt Sue & Devon built such a relationship that even after Grandmom passed 5 years ago, my Aunt Sue called A Way to Stay to help her out when she had surgeries on her hips and knees. Aunt Sue had June come in a live with her for 2 months. Aunt Sue had company and someone to cook for her... making healthy meals instead of takeout. After June left my Aunt Sue was diagnosed with cancer. By the time she knew she had cancer, it had spread everywhere. Just like they were with Grandmom and Aunt Sue before, they were with my Aunt Sue when she was at St. Mary’s ICU and in her last days. A Way to Stay is such a wonderful company! I do not know how my family would have been without them.

I cannot express enough how grateful my family is to A Way to Stay. My very large family planned to care of our grandparents on our own because there were so many of us willing do it.... Or so we thought until we got more than we could handle between my grandmother’s increased dementia and my grandfather’s sudden physical decline. The year before we decided to bring A Way to Stay onboard was difficult for us because even though we are a large family we couldn’t meet the increased needs of both our grandfather and grandmother. Necessity being the mother of invention led one of us to a social worker during a hospital visit. She gave us a long list home care agencies. Pointing to A Way to Stay she said, “This is the one I would call." She was right. After Devon’s long phone call on speaker phone with most of our family and answering everyone's questions, we knew A Way to Stay was right for us. Devon was sure to send Gran the same people and that helped her "recognize" them even with her dementia. This was a special gift as she had not been able to recognize many of her family as her dementia increased. We could not provide her the comfort that my grandfather did. His frequent hospitalizations meant he was often not with her so she spent many moments sad and confused. However, when the A Way to Stay ladies came my grandmother was all smiles. Your agency gave us the invaluable gift knowing my grandmother was happy during a very difficult time in her life. We were able to keep her home and out of a facility until she passed.

Last year my husband’s recently widowed mother came to live with us. We both work full time and are seldom home. My mother-in-law was used to going out on errands with my father-in-law and was spending a lot of time alone so we started looking for a companion. . Devon and Dana helped us understand that my mother-in-law actually needs more help than we thought. It turns out that my father-in-law was the "caregiver" of the relationship and never let us know about my mother-in-law's confused mental status and frequent falls! With the help of the wonderful ladies of A Way to Stay my husband and I are able to keep up with our lives while still making sure my mother-in-law is safe and happy. A Way to Stay is not caregivers. They are family!!!!!!! Gardner M

I recently interviewed with this company and was extremely impressed with their operation. It is owned by 2 sisters who have full knowledge of the needs of their clients as well the perfect match for a caretaker. There was just a warmth about these ladies and I would feel very confident in hiring them for my loved one. I also believe they care about their staff as well. That is something very rare in this industry. I would strongly recommend them.
