Our mother in end stage Parkinson’s was denied care from this hospice. She was bedridden, had trouble swallowing and had lost all of her mobility and most of her ability to feed herself. I spent 2.5 hours with their admissions nurse who had never done a nursing home admission and it was a waste of my time as ultimately their medical director ordered a blood test and based on those results denied her. Fortunately we knew enough to call another hospice who saw our mom and admitted that same day. The same exact day Beacon said “no.” The second hospice stated unequivocally our mom needed hospice. Our mom passed less than 6 weeks later. I called Beacon today and in polite and factual conversation in an effort to educate as to our experience and their failure, in the hopes another family would not go through this I was met with defensiveness and continual interruptions. Stating their medical director was just following MediCare guidelines. The same exact guidelines the second hospice must follow.

We used Beacon for our dad who passed in March ‘23. We were lucky enough to be able to provide 24 hour care for him on our own, so we’re able to honor his wish to die at home. Beacon made the whole experience much more tolerable than I’d we were on our own. We could not be happier with their service. We got his pain meds refilled the same day when we realized we had less than we thought, on a Sunday. The nurses and rest of the care team were kind, compassionate, and informative. We would highly recommend them to anyone needing hospice care.

This hospice owns a nursing home and is quick to send patients there rather than die at home as family wishes. They didn't even offer to bring in a hospital bed.

This was a horrible experience at a time when the patient should have been first. They order comfort measures pack out of state and when my Dad needed his first dose of morphine it hadn't arrived and I had to call his PCP for the Med. Avoid them at all cost, they make promises they cannot keep.
