Mansfield is a suburb of Fort Worth, part of the DFW metroplex and one of the largest metro areas in Texas. Seniors here, about 10% of the city’s population, benefit from the big city amenities and diverse options for entertainment while enjoying the closer-knit community feel that Mansfield provides. Elderly Mansfield residents may choose to ride the DART light rail line to the Dallas Zoo, take a bus to shop at the famous Galleria Mall or visit an area lake for fishing, boating or strolling a gentle path. The DFW area is also home to world-class health care, including Texas Presbyterian Hospital and the Baylor University system of hospitals.

Mansfield has many different providers for home health care and homemaker services for seniors who wish to age in place in their own homes. According to the Genworth Financial Cost of Care Survey 2019, home care services in Mansfield average $4,195 per month, which is a bit lower than the national average ($4,385) and slightly higher than the Texas monthly average ($4,004).

Note: Data for Mansfield was unavailable, so data for the nearest city, Dallas, was used instead.

At Caring.com, we’ve compiled a comprehensive directory of every home care provider in the Mansfield area – complete with types of care provided, services offered and reviews from families who’ve actually used the service. Mansfield Home Care Resources

Home care services are only one of the pieces needed for seniors to gracefully age in place. There are many services and programs that are low-cost or free, that enable seniors to enjoy an independent lifestyle in the comfort of their own home, such as help with home modifications, meal delivery services, and more. Below, we’ve compiled a few of the most helpful resources in Mansfield:

Tarrant County Area Agency on Aging

Address: 1500 N. Main, Ste. 200, Fort Worth, TX 76164-0448
Phone Number: (817) 258-8125

The Agency on Aging offers many programs to benefit Mansfield seniors and help them retain their independence. Caseworkers help individuals apply for benefits, including Social Security, SNAP food benefits and health care and can connect those in need with the community resources. The AAA also offers caregiver respite and support and administers health education seminars for seniors. Fresh fruit and vegetables, donated by area farmers, are also provided on a monthly basis.

Senior Lifestyles

Address: 1164 Matlock Road, Mansfield, TX  76063
Phone Number: (817) 728-3682

Senior Lifestyles is administered by the Mansfield Parks and Recreation Department and offers the elderly opportunities to socialize and meet new friends. Activities include devotional worship and singing, Bingo games, dances and weekday lunches. The senior center also hosts gentle fitness classes such as chair yoga and Silver Sneakers and different programs that address the needs of seniors.

Administration for Community Living

Address: 1301 Young Street Suite 106-850, Dallas, TX 75201
Phone Number: (202) 401-4634

This agency administers a number of programs aimed to help seniors retain their independence and access area resources, including senior advocacy programs. Representatives help the elderly apply for state and federal benefits and locate home care providers. Other programs include:

  • Obtaining assistive technology
  • Investigating claims of elder neglect
  • Locating support centers for older adults

Meals On Wheels of Tarrant County

Address: 5740 Airport Freeway, Haltom City, TX 76117
Phone Number: (817) 336-0912

The Meals on Wheels program is a meal delivery service for area seniors who are unable to leave their homes or prepare healthy meals. Volunteers deliver hot meals each day on weekdays and prepared meals for the weekends on Fridays. Other services include helping the elderly understand how to prepare their own nutritious meals and accessing food banks and donation centers.

Mid-Cities Care Corps

Address: 745 W. Pipeline Rd., Hurst, TX 76053
Phone Number: (817) 282-0531

The Care Corps provides many services to help the elderly and those with a qualifying disability remain in their homes and preserve their independence. Volunteers offer transportation services and help shopping for groceries and meal preparation. Other groups assist with light home repairs, including winterization and lawn care, and help installing ramps or other handicapped accommodations, such as grab bars in the bathroom. The Care Corps also administers a social outreach program and daily check-ins, where desired.

Determining Your Loved One’s Need for In-Home Care

Aging can be a difficult process, and loved ones may not always ask for help – often times it’s up to their family to evaluate their need for help around the house. While no two situations are exactly alike, this checklist can help you and your loved ones determine when it’s time to start the search for a home care provider.

Guidelines for Talking About In-Home Care

If you’ve determined that your loved one needs the assistance of a care provider in their home, it may be time for a difficult conversation. Handled correctly, however, this process can bring a family together and ensure that everyone’s concerns are addressed. Use this PDF as a starting point to help the conversation stay as positive and productive as possible.
