Watson Cancer Center suggested Good Shepherd for Hospice care in our home. The first nurse, nurse Kim, arrived the next morning soon after, we started getting the needed equipment delivered by James and that evening nurse Ruth came to explain everything including the medication. The next day, Saturday, nurse Sara came to check my wife and answer any questions. On Sunday, nurse Carol came by. I also had contact with a nurse by phone whenever we needed it. My wife passed early Monday morning and nurse Jasmine came to support us. I was very pleased from start to finish with the care and respect we received from the Good Shepherd team.

I asked that Good Shepherd Hospice be called in for my dear friend at the Carpenter’s HOME Estates, who was a patient in the nursing home. Being 97 yrs. young, her body was tired and she needed extra hands to provide her with the caring she so deserved. I will be forever grateful to the nurses who made her transition from life less painful. I learned that Medicare and Medicare both pay for services as long as the patient meets the criteria. So do not wait to ASK about Hospice for your loved one.
Sincerely,
M. J.

The staff was kind, courteous, helpful, honest, and truly cared for our family. The nurses laughed and cried with us as we let go of a loved one. If ever I'm in this situation again, I hope to have people half as amazing by my side.

This hospice promised much in the hospital and did not come through. We were left to figure things out on our own unless we called and became angry at staff to get them to respond. The people who answered the phones and nurses on the phone were sometimes hostile. We were told services were 24-7 and then when we called they said it would be 4 days before we could get help with an urgent problem. We called after-hours and they helped us and were of great benefit. The aide and LPN who came to our house were great. After-hours nurses were extremely helpful. Our main issue was that we felt our relative was dumped out of the hospital with hospice supposedly in place and we were not trained how to move him, deal with incontinence, etc. and were told it would be days. Only anger got people moving. Not a way people should be treated with a dying relative.

Good Shepherd Hospice sends me a nurse once a week for my husband. Our experience is excellent, and we recommend them because of the personnel. We've been using them for a couple of months now. The staff is excellent. They're very amicable and help with the pain medication.

Good Shepherd Hospice gave us such comfort knowing there was someone we could talk to at any time. The staff are so caring and patient with both the family and the patient. It gave my sister and I needed reassurance and helped us with bathing, home visits, medical equipment. You are all such wonderful angels to our loved one. Thank you so much.

I was very happy with our experience at Good Shepherd hospice. They were very professional and caring. The RN who was in charge of my fathers care during his last day explained in detail exactly why he was experiencing the symptoms that he was. She explained the dying process in full to where I could understand. She explained that understanding the dying process makes it easier to accept. She was correct.when my father passed she was in the room and stayed to comfort my stepmother and I. She also provided us with a beautiful poem, 'I'm spending Christmas with Jesus this year'. The loss of my father was and is devastating, but Good Shepherd Hospice did their best to make it a little easier. Thank you.

My family has been totally left on it's own to figure all aspects of hospice out (I had to actually google morphine, respite care and all the other basics). The nurse managers were miserable and took it out on their aids. Presently my father has transitioned into the active dying phase and the on call nurse told me they are too busy to send a nurse. A friend had to tell me about the emergent morphine pack and had me call hospice back to get dr to give us a dose. They are on complete skeleton staff shut down on the weekends. When my dad was still able to ambulate and take a warm shower he was not taken into the shower for three days because the nurse manager 'forgot' to update his orders. There were two great aides and one superior on call nurse. Everyone else didn't want to hear from you...the annoyance was palpable over the phone. Several times, not just once, the secretary allegedly did not pass on messages regarding the social worker and request for a call back regarding a pharmacy order not delivered. I cannot tell you how this experience has totally clouded my view of hospice. Yesterday a friends dad died in another hospice care provider in Lakeland and, honest to god, I cried at the difference of their experience. I am actually a present client and I will never forget the lack of organization, compassion and professionalism these people displayed. It's a money making business, and don't think you don't feel it at every turn. When an aide is in your house a 'supervisor' actually calls them over a walkie talkie type device to ask them questions about other clients.
