Questions about Bridgewater Memory Care
What ongoing training does the staff receive in dementia care?
Our care-friends receive 24 hours of classroom training which includes 8 hours dementia orientation training. The care-friends then receive 16 hours of on-the-job training where they are "shadowing" another employee. The care-friends also receive 1 hour of ongoing training each month during our bi-weekly in-services.
How many staffers are on duty in the daytime and overnight?
Our building is separated into 4 different houses, which each have 13 residents. We staff 2 care-friends on each house from 6AM to 10PM. From 10PM to 6AM there is 1 care-friend on each house. This does not include our management team, which consists of our Executive Director, Resident Service Coordinator, Director of Nursing, Engagement Coordinator, and Community Relations Director, who are each here 40 hours a week.
What programs or activities does Bridgewater Memory Care offer to keep residents engaged? How does the staff engage residents' long-term memories?
Arbor House offers a very unique engagement program that was specifically designed for our communities. Our engagement program is called "Life in Motion" and is designed to hit on 8 key areas of joy, connection, and purpose. The eight components of "Life in Motion" are: Bodies in Motion, Minds in Motion, Hearts in Motion, Dreams in Motion, Purpose in Motion, Friends in Motion, Feelings in Motion, and Quiet Moments. "Life in Motion" hosts a variety of different engagements for 6-8 hours each day, that range from exercising, trivia and reminiscing, Bible groups, arts and crafts, volunteer work for community, dominoes, Bingo, baking, massages/facials, and listening to soft music while relaxing. Our care-friends are trained to reminisce with the residents during almost every engagement, which is meant to engage their long-term memories.
Who assesses residents' health and cognitive functioning? How often is that assessment repeated?
Our Director of Nursing assesses the residents' health and cognitive functioning before the resident moves into our community, the day the resident moves into our community, and then on an annual basis or as needed due to a change of condition.
What techniques does Bridgewater Memory Care use to support memory care residents during mealtimes?
We use a "Best Friends Approach to Alzheimer's Care" at Arbor House. This approach emphasizes the importance of building relationships with the residents we are caring for, and becoming their friend rather than just their caregiver. During mealtimes specifically, our care-friends sit down at the tables and participate in social dining with our residents. They are able to provide appropriate social cues and encourage conversation.
How does Bridgewater Memory Care keep residents' families informed about their loved ones' health?
We stay in close contact with our family members. We are a fairly small community, so we are able to build strong relationships with all of our resident's family members. The responsible party is notified after any incident involving their loved-one.
Describe the neighborhood around Bridgewater Memory Care. Is it located in a residential neighborhood, a business district, a rural setting, or other type of locale?
Arbor House is located on Autumn Ridge Drive which is a residential neighborhood.
Is Bridgewater Memory Care affiliated with a hospital if more care is needed?
We have a medical director, Dr. Stephen Bishop, who is able to see his patients inside of our community. If a resident does need additional care from a hospital they would be transported by ambulance to Lake Granbury Medical Center.

About Bridgewater Memory Care
Bridgewater Memory Care is an all-inclusive, secure community for residents with memory care needs. We have created an environment to support residents to maintain their dignity and independence while receiving assistance in areas they may need support, such as dressing, bathing, medications and decision making. Our Life in Motion engagement programming allows residents to find joy, purpose and connection in their everyday lives. Our caregivers, as we call "friends", find a distinct connection with each resident that helps build relationships between the two, providing continuity and structure throughout the day. Whether it be enjoying snacks in the ice cream parlor, or helping bake a cake, enjoying the birds in the Aviary, or taking a walk in the secured courtyard, the residents of Arbor House are engaged with their "friends" and enjoy a more purpose-filled day!Get Costs
