My brother is currently staying at Avantara North. They have professional physical therapy technicians who live on-site. They also have nurses and medical personnel right there in the facility. It's a stressful situation, but everybody there was helpful. Somebody there even helped him get his Medicare application done. He couldn't have gone there because we couldn't afford to until he got approved. I think they did it for him in just a couple of days, within a week, too, and that made our decision to help him stay there. They're just great people. They do everything, like give him his medication on time and bathe him. He is staying in a two-person room. They're just wonderful people to work with. I didn't meet anybody who was not polite. He eats three meals a day, and says he doesn't like it; he only likes pizza and fried chicken, but he's pretty stubborn. I've seen the meals myself, and they're all balanced with vegetables, meats, and lettuce. Everything they need is all planned out for every person there every day. I had some meatloaf, potatoes, and gravy, and I thought it was excellent. I've never seen the place dirty, but we had some pretty bad snowstorms, and they only shoveled up just a path. It was big enough for wheelchairs to get through from the street parking lot to the building, but that was the only thing I ever noticed that was out of place. I thought they'd have somebody come in and completely get rid of all the snow, but we had a lot of snow there for about a month, too. They have live bands and school bands come in. The first day I went there to drop my brother off, I met Elvis Presley, who was in the band. They do that in the activities room every day. Of all the places I talked to, it was the most inexpensive one. I don't know a lot about the program, but they're accepting my brother's Social Security, and they're covering the rest of his bill to live there. If our government and the system are willing to pick up the balance after his social security, to help him live out the rest of his life there, I think it would be great.

I was a resident of Avantara nursing facility for about two months. It was a pleasant experience, and I received excellent care from all staff members. The facility is clean and well taken care of. Therapy was also excellent and pleasant to work with I would recommend this home to anyone who needs care for themselves or their family members .

I would not give this place even one star if possable!! As my mother was there for 12 days for the OT & PT. The therapy was the only thing that worked out for her there. All the other care was less than standards should allow. She was put in a room with the most disgusting carpeting that smelled so horrible that it made my eyes water. She went home without having a bath for more than a week. The food was best if it came out of a can. There was no one standing up for her other than myself, who is being paid to be the patient advocate???? She was woken up in the middle of the night to check vitals and to see if she had wet her pants....she is a dialyses patient who doesn't urinate. This is only of few of the many problems with this place that I saw first hand. If you have family there GET THEM OUT ASAP!

Care is a four letter word much abused here. While a few of the staff/workers are good and kind, focus is on making money. Doctors appointments are simply canceled out of convenience. It looks okay on the surface if you don’t look too deep. This is a very bad place. Realizing that the nursing home system is extremely corrupt in South Dakota, this place is worse than most. My father was stuck here for a couple of years And I visited him often. Painful experience for me, let alone him. In my opinion The people who run this place and the other Golden living nursing homes are very sick themselves, And definitely should not be in control of other people’s health.
