I visited this facility

I toured Monarch Skilled Nursing and Rehab. It seemed like a very nice facility. The only questions we had for them was the bed that they had in there, and they said that could be taken care of. So, they were very obliging. The facility seemed to be very clean. The room seemed a little bit small, but I think it would have been able to accommodate our needs.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

I went to Monarch Assisted Living. It's very pretty, very clean. It's not too bad looking. That's the place where you could get coffee, tea, water, whatever you wanted. You just walk in there and get it. It's in the dining area. My friend lives there, so my friend took me through there. My friend told me a couple of days ago that they had played some kind of TV game. Only they played it there, and she was in charge of it, and she said everybody liked it. While I was there, there were two gentlemen at a table putting a puzzle together, and I did have to go in an elevator to get up to the second floor, which is where she lived. She seems to be very happy there, but at the same time, she needs a lot of assistance. She cleaned her own apartment. She's a very social lady. When I went there I was not impressed. As far as the rooms go, they're all the same. You either get a one-bedroom apartment or a suite, it's smaller than a one-room apartment. I saw nothing wrong with the apartments. They were clean and tidy and all of that. I went back by myself and asked if I could tour here and the lady came in, and it was hard to find her. I actually ended up in the nursing part, and I did not like that at all. It was dirty, old, and the ceiling panels had come down. She was not excited about the place. It was like I got to hurry up and go someplace, because I had told her I had already toured assisted living, and so there was no sense in her taking me through. The dining area was fine. They had big tables. The people who greet you and take you through and all of that, they should be more available, more out in the open, and more interested in the person who is applying. I think they should ask them, because I had to ask them, "Could I have something cold to drink?" And she brought me some ice water and a styrofoam cup. Basically, she really didn't do anything for me except she gave me a piece of paper. It showed me how much it costs and everything. And that was $123 a week for independent living, and it went higher the more aid you needed. I would think that was too expensive for what I was going to get. I was going to get three meals a day. I was going to get laundry. I was going to get a bus trip, which I don't need because I have my car. House cleaning twice a week or maybe twice a month, I can't remember, but all of those things are laundry. I would prefer to do my own laundry by myself, and they were charging to use their washer and dryer. Now, I think if you're living there, you're paying $3,600 to $3,800 a month. You shouldn't have to pay for a washing machine $1.75 to wash and $0.25 for 15 minutes to dry.

I visited this facility

Milcrest Nursing Center is an extremely small facility, but that gives it more of a family feel. The rooms were double-occupancy and very small. The dining area was very clean and very family friendly, and their food was excellent. They had a salon and an activities room.
