I'm pleased with Heartland of Marysville. My mom is currently residing there, and I'm really happy with the care that she’s receiving. They go above and beyond. They have a salon, activity center, and books. The rooms are very clean, double occupancy, and small.

I was in heartland a few times. The nurses only want to hang around the nurses station, one is always singing and dances, while people are sitting in wheel chairs, in pain for and hour or more, they want to go to bed, but nurses don't care i wait sometimes two hours or more for my pain medicine, it was excoriating ! Another nurse at night would give you all your pain meds, and muscles relations, and nueroligal pain med all at the same time. These meds all affected the central nervous system.. I was told later this could have killed me. When I asked the nurse why are you giving me all these a the same time? She said , I don't have time to keep coming back to you!

I am a friend of a patient that was in Heartland for a period of about 3 weeks. In the time frame I personally witnessed some of the uncaring attitudes of the majority of the staff that was supposed to help with the rehabilitation of my close family friend. My friend who I will name Simon had knee replacement surgery and was given several choices of rehabilitation facilities to choose from. As his wife had been in there for the same surgery rehabilitation as he was going threw he also chose this facility. His wife had been there several years earlier and had a relatively good experience.. However when Simon was transferred to Heartland, the lack of attention and the ability to follow up on what was stated was going to happen and didn't, was evident the first full day he was there. They constantly stated that he was dehydrated but seldom came into his room to ensure that he had water or ice water to help with the dehydration. It became a daily duty of ours visiting to refill his heartland water container with ice water and to ensure that it was filled while we were visiting.. Simon does not have any teeth to chew his food with and he constantly could not eat what was brought to him. On several occasions the food that was brought to him could not be cut with a fork...How could he chew such food when it could not even be cut with a fork... No knifes were provided so he just didn't eat... except for the pudding or rice or sometimes steamed vegetables. We would stop at the fast food restaurants and bring him fish sandwiches to at least allow him some nutrition.. He spoke to the dietician on a least 2 occasions and was told that he did not have any teeth to chew with and she stated that the food would be chopped but that did not happen until just before his release. Simon lost almost 30 lbs from the time he had surgery until his discharge from Heartland. He only spent 4 days in the hospital and the rest of the time he was at Heartland. Low blood pressure and dehydration was constantly talked about but little was done by this staff to help with the problem. I don't know how many times that we passed the nurses station to see them standing there in a group holding small dogs up against there shoulders and making a big fuss over the animals but upon arriving at Simon's room only to find out that no one had been by to check on him or his ability to keep rehydrate.. We also saw a member to the dining staff at the nurses station holding the small dogs while still in her cafeteria apron... I would not recommend this facility to anyone.. for any reason.. No patient deserves to be treated like this while undergoing assisted care/rehabilitation of any kind. This facility is paid very well for the care that they are supposed to provide. It is a shame that our fiends and relatives, in most cases who are elderly, can't get the care they need and deserve, in a facility such as this....

I was in Heartland for a month prior to moving into another nursing home. It was actually my Daughter who chose this facility. I was having bleeding bowel and stomach was bleeding and I was being sick a lot. I will not recommend this nursing home to anybody because they were snobby. There was nobody like them. And I said I will never gonna come back there again. That was the first time that I've been to a nursing home. If I ever have to be in a nursing home again, I will definitely not go back to this one. I was on medicare and medicaid which I'm still on. But you have to stay in a month, as you stay longer you personally have to pick up the cost for it. I'm 70 years old who lives alone. But being in Heartland is a patient. The nurses weren't really nice at all. They didn't care for their patients like they should have. They don't care. Money is all they care for. I like to have friends, I'm just that kind of person that likes to joke around and just having a good time while you're there. If I would be in a nursing home I want people to be pleasant. It was just like a job to them. They are really not caring at all. But my memory is not good anymore. I'm also thinking to be in an assisted living facility because I feel like I'm not safe to be home alone. With regards to the food in Heartland I think it's horrible. I guess that goes along with institutional food. If you're hungry you'll eat it. One thing that needs to improve is to teach their people how to be good with people.
