The Best Nursing Home Communities in Scioto County, OH

"My dad fell and broke his tail bone. He was 83 years old. He went to the hospital they sent him to a nursing/rehab. place to get him able to walk again with a walker or cane. This place they sent him to worked with him for 6 weeks. Then said he would never be able to walk with a walker or cane. The way our house is made dad really needed to be able to use a walker or cane in order to come home. Otherwise he would of had to of gone to a nursing home to live. I decided to try a different nursing/rehab home to see if they could help him. He was there for only 4 weeks and was walking with a cane. I can't say enough about the care the Wurtland nursing home gave to my dad while there. Had they not taken him in and worked with him he would not have been able to come home plus, they had no long term care beds available at that time so, the one place I could of put him was not a very nice place and I really didn't want to put dad in that other nursing home. Wurtland just took a chance on dad and worked a miracle on him. It is a small nursing home but, their rehab is much better than the first place the hospital sent dad to and that one was one of the newest nursing homes in our area and said to be the best. Well, I know that is not true. Wurtland is the best as far as I am concerned. This was two years ago and my dad has since passed away. But, they gave him a little more quality of live time by teaching him to walk and allowing him to get to come home to die. I really thank them for that. "

"My mother entered Oakmont when she was 89 and died their a week after turning 93. The facilities were always clean when I visited, The staff was both professional and concerned. I would receive phone calls anytime they needed to change her medication or if there were any other health issues. While placing a loved one in a nursing home is not a task that anyone wants, you can rest your mind that your family member will be properly cared for. I would choose Oakmont for myself, if it was needed. "

"I had to be in PHM several years ago for Physical Therapy and treatment of foot ulcer. They have a very caring Nursing Staff in that they p are personable and caring. The Nursing Home was kept very clean and residents and patient areas were very clean. They have a very nice and new area for Physical Therapy and patients were housed very close in location. A plus in my book. They need more staff for evenings and night shift. The only reason I gave them 4 stars instead of 5 is the fact they need more nursing staff in the times I mentioned, my overall experience was very well. I miss the staff that took care of me. :) "

"Harbor HealthCare of Ironton was pretty good. They did well with dad. They had nurses on staff around the clock and every time something came up, they would give me a call and let me know what was going on. They had church services and physical therapy there and everything. Dad had a recliner in his room, a bed, a sink, a bathroom, a little nightstand on the side of his bed, a little refrigerator, a TV, and a closet for his clothes."

"My family member received excellent care at Kingsbrook. It's a beautiful building with all the amenities, but more than that, it is the excellent quality of care the residents receive. Staff kept our family informed of everything. They were encouraging and helpful. My family member saw a major health improvement and was able to transition home. Staff was very detailed and intentional with all COVID precautions. Staff are well educated and are very caring. Rehab/therapy, activities, nursing, all were great. Dietary had delicious and nutritious meals. I'm grateful for Kingsbrook."

"My mother has moved into Kingsbrook Lifecare Center. It's been great. They've been good to her, and it's a clean facility. There's plenty of staff to care for people. They're not waiting for half hours or hours for attendance. They keep good staff. She likes the food. She brags about how good the food is and there's plenty of it. The rooms are very roomy. There's plenty of room for a guest and a wheelchair to get in and out. They have a lot of activities for the residents. They take them on outings. She hasn't been there long enough to enjoy any of the other stuff, but so far, she's really happy with it. All the nurses are very kind and attentive. They don't just fill it with a bunch of people to change a bedpan. They've got LPNSs and RNs and plenty of qualified staff. The landscape is good in the summertime. She's been there before, and there are a lot of places you can take them for walks outside. The facility itself is really kept up nice. They're a part of the University of Kentucky and King's Daughters Medical Center, they're all in one, so they keep it up. From what I've seen from other residents, it looks like they have a lot of activities. Value for money is good. Everybody would like to get a cheaper price, but compared to prices in Kansas City where I'm from, they're half-priced. You're talking $404 a day in Kansas City, and here you're talking $202 a day. That's a big difference in prices, so you're getting your money's worth."

"I am a volunteer at Golden Living Vanceburg for the past 15 years. Staff here are very friendly and very attentive to the residents. They are care about the residents and the food is good. Special care in activites to make sure all needs are met. I highly recommend Golden Living at Vanceburg if your family has needs. You could never find a better place for your love one. "

"I have a family member that was supposedly only been in short term and then they said another 30 days and now they are trying to keep permanent he is at risk of losing his family home and not be able to pay his bills because of this and the staff or doctors has not updated family as we have ask and he whats to come home"

"My experience at Crystal Care of Coal Grove has been fantastic. The staff are nice and involved. I was able to get great rehab services and go home. The food could be improved slightly but they did make things special order for me. I would recommend."

"During my first marriage , my wife's grandfather's health worsened, and he was a resident at Heartland of Jackson for a time. I had never visited this facility before, and I was very pleased with how it was kept, and how the residents were cared for. Courteous and polite to a fault, the staff were always eager to accommodate both residents and visitors. The halls were clean and clutter free, the only real traffic being those who were busy about their work. My wife's grandfather wasn't fond of the accommodations, mainly because he wasn't fond of being there in the first place. But he agreed that if he had to be in such a place, that was about as good as any he had seen. The residents' rooms were kept very clean, like they had just moved in. We took him outside in his wheelchair for a stroll around the grounds, which were VERY neatly kept. Overall, if there's anyone I know in need of this type of care, I would definitely reccommend Heartland of Jackson. "

I have never heard of a case of elderly neglect, or any other issue associated with this facility. The food, like most nursing homes, leaves a lot of room for improvement.
