We chose The New Jewish Home Sarah Neuman. My mom had been there before. She had been hospitalized and she needed to do post rehab. She had done rehab there before. We were familiar with the place and she was also satisfied with the rehab and it has a good reputation in general. It's very nice. They have different houses in the complex and she's in a particular house where they care for dementia patients, and it's very nice. I've been to many nursing homes where there is a certain smell, and in this home, there's no smell at all. They keep it very clean and it's very pleasant. The common room where they gather for their meals and the rooms are very nicely appointed. It's pleasant to be there. The staff was nice, friendly, and caring and inspired confidence in me that my mother is looked after well. They have a lot of sort of musical events where someone comes in and performs, plays songs, or plays music. They do have that and they have religious services, my mother's Roman Catholic. They are both Jewish and Roman Catholic. They have services and they have somebody who specializes in activities and takes into account the needs of the residents. The meals are very healthy. They vary the meals. In my mother's case, it has to be mashed up and they know whatever everyone's needs are and they are healthy meals and varied meals. I've been there for meal time. I've seen it firsthand.

Sarah Neuman Center seemed fine. They had a new set up that was like a home setting. There were fewer people interacting with the patients. They had private and semi-private rooms. The security seemed fine. They activities also seemed fine. I liked that it was nearby. I will recommend it to others.

We have decided to get my mother here in Sarah Neuman. The first impression I got was excellent. Well actually not totally excellent because we entered through what I think is their dementia units. There were people just in front of the television. However once we walked through that unit, it is night and day compared to the other facility. There was a bright and airy visitor and patient space. It is built around a very large garden. In effect, there's a three sided building around the garden. The patient's room was bright and large. It looked fresh. The aides looked cheerful and willing to help. We ate in a public space, and the food was good. What is particularly appealing here is they were doing something new. They call it a Small House, but it is a different living concept where they try and get away from the institutional style. It is a small section with 13 or 14 patient rooms. It is arranged around a very large central dining room and open kitchen. They are trying for a home-like atmosphere. But the downside of this idea is the aide spends a little more time in keeping the kitchen spotless instead of caring for the patients. They do seem to have a good medical staff. There is a nurse on the floor during the day. It is a pretty good place, although it is weak on the number and creativity of activities.

Sarah Neuman was a nursing home and they had a nice section for Alzheimer people. It would have been great because I could just walk to it. However, I did not like it at all and I was so disappointed. I had a friend with me when I came there and she said: "You're not gonna put John there, are you?". I had an appointment at 11:00 o'clock. When we got there, I don't know how many people we saw lined up in wheelchair. I asked the lady: "What were they doing here" and she said: "They are waiting for lunch". I said: "My, it's 11:00 o'clock". She said: "Yeah, but it take us a long time to gather them". I said: "Well, okay. Where is the section I want to see? The assisted living?" It was not very clean. It was not very organized. I said, "What are your activities?" "Well, they had the TV". I said: "Oh, okay, Fine". It's good to kill the time but I don't think TV was a distraction therapy. I really didn't like the look of it and I was not the only one. What I didn't like was the assistant to giving bath to those. They were just cattled around. They were placed in a chair, put in a lift and put into a bath tub. That thing was not very friendly. I knew they were handicapped and I knew they needed help. However, it was like a factory and I did not like it.

The staff was very precise and took all precautions to ensure safety. The staff at times was a little too careful but that is not a bad thing when dealing with people in those conditions. There were many different activities to assimilate residents to the environment so they did not feel alone, which is something that unfortunately is too common in places of this nature. The people that came to visit to volunteer at the facility were just as helpful as the paid staff and made the residents feel as if they were at home. The food was good but sometimes the variety was not as good as it could be. The service however made up for this and I never heard a complaint from my relative. Every time I went to visit I heard nothing but positive things and it was comforting knowing that the environment at the facility was one that a resident would describe as being reminiscent of home.

Sarah Neuman is an excellent facility for assisted living facility. One of the most important aspects of this type of facility is cleanliness, and on this front Sarah Neuman excels. The food at Sarah Neuman is always first class, and they have a steady rotation of foods. Sarah Neuman has a beautiful garden and courtyard area, which is a perfect place to meet family and have a lovely meal with friends and family. Sarah Neuman also has top of the line nursing and care. Smiling nurse, who know what they are doing, makes me confident of the quality of the 24 hour care at Sarah Neuman. Sarah Neuman gives the feeling of safety and that is critical in an assisted living facility. Sarah Neuman has taken excellent care of my family in the past and I highly recommend them to anyone thinking about it. Overall, Sarah Neuman has a well rounded program and is a wonderful place to visit.
