I wasn't impressed with Continental Springs when I first came in there, but they're the only ones that would take Mom. The facilities are fair. There are a lot of people around the family room and the TV room right in front if you go in. The staff is pretty good. They've given her good care. They do bingo and they're trying to keep them involved in activities, doing different things. She participates in a few things, but not all of them. They have a large dining room and the food is pretty good. Their price is just pretty high, but a lot of them are.

When my uncle transferred from a closing nursing home that seemed luxurious and had his own room, he deteriorated in six months. It is not a place you would want to put anyone you care deeply for. Granted, they received the right necessities for the most part, but none of the personal touches of home. Unless you have plenty of money, you get a room with two twin beds, your own sink and tiny counter, and a shared bathroom with the adjacent room. There wasn't even enough room for his recliner, which we spent $700 on. He transferred rooms one time and they did not transfer his items with him. We are missing multiple items to this day. When he passed away less than a year later, they lost his recliner. The cord to it that have the extra functions was never found. It took days for them to find a portion of his belongings; they were in three different places in the building. They had to be tracked down by multiple nurses. I was very patient. The lady who assisted me was too good a person to be working there and she has since left. They lost his most prized possession, his stuffed dog, which he had had since birth and carried with him every day in his wheelchair. It had lots of wear and tear, but everyone knew he had it. He put it in a pillowcase and kept it with him. They believe it was accidentally washed, and no one from the laundry department came forward and reported it. It was devastating. They also lost an antique table that I had let him use for his Christmas tree, which he loved to watch spin. It was a tiny tree, but it barely fit in the room. So it couldn't rotate where it was sitting because the area was too tight. The table was a gift from my late husband. Many other items were missing; at first, we couldn't even find his pictures, which should have been next to him so he could see them. They found a portion of his items in his previous room, in a box in a closet, under someone else's belongings. He had a cd/cassette player with lots of CDs that he loved to listen to, was found in another room. We never recovered any of his clothes. The nurses explained that they thought he didn't have any. So they gave him spare items. The nurses explained that they thought he had none. We never recovered his new comforter that he loved. Or his dry erase board that was also a tilted tray for drawing. Something he had done his whole life. The following weeks after he passed, I repeatedly left messages for Kyle, the so called head honcho, who refused to return any of my calls. He was a poor excuse for someone in charge. It wasn't a petty issue to discuss. The nurses were amazing. He was a favorite patient at the previous nursing home, where he re - learned to walk and talked nonstop before going to this one. They loved him so much they came and visited him. His previous hospice companion came and visited also. The nurses loved him at this one as well. Some had worked previously with him at the other home. And they loved him. They are short-staffed because the business is mismanaged, and nurses quit; they cannot keep anyone. I do not blame any of the nurses; I found them all to be very kind and caring. Those who were there when he was brought in saw a rapid decline. The last time I visited, he wasn't even making sense. He seemed disoriented. He didn't even seem to recognize us. This doesn't even touch all the problems we had along the way with his health. He had multiple rashes he wasn't staying dry they weren't helping very well because they were very low staffed. He became a shell of himself and lost all dignity. Unfortunately, I know this is a hard situation to deal with when it comes to a loved one. We ran out of options because they had to place around 50 patients, I believe. Other options would have been miles away. Getting close to having to place my own mother at this time, I will definitely visit each place and hope I have options. I am hopeful we can find something that will work, and I pray that in the future, when it's time for me, they are nothing like this.
