"My parents will be moving into Transition Assisted Living. It's a little bit smaller. The layout is not so nursing home style with long hallways, which get people confused. There's more one-on-one care. They just seemed nice. It was very clean and beautiful. It was mostly memory care that we were going for. The staff was really helpful. The director was running a little bit late because she got tied up somewhere, so somebody else stepped in and it was just one of the regular workers there. Other ones came out of the rooms and just came up and talked to us. They were talking to guests that were there. They're just very personable. The food looked good. They have two awesome sitting areas for quiet time. They have a nice game area. They have a theater area with reclining chairs. They have an outside patio that's gated. They're right across from Lake Michigan, so that was even better."

"It was very clean, very pleasant, friendly, and extremely helpful. My mother can be independent as well as get help if she needs. They offer full meals, breakfast, lunch, and dinner. They provide medical care like nurses, even pet care. We were impressed by that. If she needed help with her animals, there are people there that would help with that. They have activities. We saw two types of rooms, one was a one-bedroom, and one that was open concept. They were very clean, and I liked that they were open if there was a fall risk. The showers were really nice. They were just a walk-in, which made it easy. They had a little courtyard."

"My father was in Pine Haven HFA and they took wonderful care of him. He had Alzheimer's and they were so kind and patient with him. "

"The place was run by a couple and a few other workers. I liked that it was connected to their house. They had a nice yard and each adult had their own room. There was only one bathroom, which was sometimes a problem. The food seemed good and was all homemade. They didn't really get to do much other than sit in the living room and watch tv, though. It didn't seem like they had a lot of stimulation. Whenever I went to visit my grandpa he was usually just sleeping in his easy chair in the living room--I imagine he slept 90% of his day. Also, there were times when no one would be in the house to help them, and some of them couldn't walk without assistance, so there should have been someone there. "

"My mother was an 85 year old woman living independently at home until February 13, 2011, when the combination of dementia, smoking and drinking (because she did not know how much or how often she was smoking or drinking) caused her to fall and break her pelvic bone. This led to a combination of events which brought her to the Bishop Noa Home in Escanaba. Mom has been there now for one year and four months, and I could not be more pleased with the caring staff and facilities. Mom is able to roam freely with her walker and her health has greatly improved without the alcohol and smoking. The dementia does continue to worsen and the short term memory is all but gone, but she is familiar with the facilities enough that she is not so confused or "scared." There is also mass and activities every day, and the socialization has been wonderful for her as she had become very isolated living alone at home. Mom loves music and they have special music with the oldies from her era several times a week and she amazingly still remembers a lot of the old songs!!! "My father was at Christian Park Healthcare Center for about a month. Most of the staff was friendly, but they had very few nurses. Their staff didn't seem to have any regular updates on education for specialized care. The facility was clean and looked like it was kept up well. It was fairly bright there. All the rooms were double rooms, so it could be quite noisy. It was like a hospital room with a drape to pull between the 2 occupants, so there was no privacy. And then the person that was away from the window had a very dark room when that curtain was closed because it was blocking the light from the window. The food was good. Everything tasted a little bland because of the residents needing no salt diets."
