"I went to The Westmore Senior Living to visit my friend. The only thing I liked about that place was that they had a lot of seniors of the same age, not real young ones that are in their 50s and 60s. The staff was very helpful and the food was very good. The facility looks good and the atmosphere is very nice and cheerful. The one room that I saw was a one-bedroom and it was very small."

"I toured The Grandview of Chisholm Trail. What I like best about it is that it's brand new. It's very nicely decorated and very clean. What I like about it is that it's huge. The staff seem very interactive with their clients. They knew all their names. The food was very good. They have many options for each meal. You had a choice of 2 or 3. It was a formal dining setting with crystal. The residents there are at a much higher level. The dining area has a wide open area with multiple small tables. It's very nice."

"I came unannounced at The Avalon. It was a very pretty facility but their rooms were outdated. It is also private care plus some VA, so it is not easy to get in there. Other than that, I was happy with everything I saw there. I like this facility very much. They have plenty of staff and they have high ratio of caretakers to the residents. It's a locked facility but I was met by five people. Some of the other facilities I visited, there was no one around. The people looked happy and clean. Their rooms, however, were from like the 1970s. They were small with shag carpets. They had bathtub showers instead of the walk-in type where you don't have to worry about lifting your foot up. They need to renovate and update their rooms. They need to get rid of the shag carpets and put in some new walk-in showers. "

"My wife is in Heritage Place Assisted Living. The physical appearance is really nice. It's a big place and she has a nice room and she seems to be well taken care of. When you have somebody with Alzheimer's, the conditions change daily, more or less. One day you think she's doing pretty good and the next day she's not doing so well. I personally feel like they're doing a good job the best that they can. They're having a lot of difficulty keeping staff for some reason. They have a large turnover on personnel, especially in memory care, so there are times when I'm not very happy with them. I would call her room a master bedroom. It has a large window, which she likes because she can look out into greenery. It's landscaped, but her window doesn't face the regular internal landscaped area. She likes looking out and she can see the birds and rabbits out there. It has a private bathroom, no bath, but it has a toilet and a sink and they seem to keep it pretty clean. If I have one complaint, it's the laundry. I'm an ex-Navy man and I had to learn early in my career to better mark your clothes or you're going to lose it. I have marked all her clothes with pretty large letters, but they didn't show up all the time. The other day I got there and she didn't have any shoes. She had one-and-a-half pairs of shoes and I found a pair and the other one hadn't been found yet. People go into each other's rooms and you always have one that tended to do that and will take things. When I first put her there, she had a cellphone and it was gone. They recommend you don't bring any jewelry, which she doesn't. When she first got there two years ago, she had nice hearing aids, and they didn't last two weeks and they were gone. They recommended that we don't get her any more. They play balloon volleyball, they have crafts, and they try to entertain them. They have parties for them. They play bingo quite frequently and they do their fingernails. I would have to cut her meat for her, so I mentioned that, and they were kind of negligent on that part. They have certain things that they're having that day and they set it up in front of them and then some of that stuff just didn't get cut up. I was there at lunch just to see what was happening, and they're not following the instructions. The staff has changed hands so much, even the top managers. I was a little disappointed in them. They don't pass on information on what needs to happen. For people that take care of their family, they don't have any group that talks about what's going on or what possible changes need to happen. The one thing that they don't have and they're supposed to have is a head nurse on the floor and for some reason, they just can't keep one. They'll get one and she'll be there two weeks and she's gone. It's a real problem the way I see it. They're clean. They've been there quite a while, but it's well planned the way it's laid out. They have good activities. Every time I come to visit, which is just about every day, they've got something going on. They have entertainers, people that come in and play the piano and sing. One area that I'm not happy with is the medicine situation. They've got it set up where you are basically required to use this one drugstore and the price of my drugs for her is just getting outrageous. I don't know whether the doctor is just giving her more stuff or what, but I'm not happy about that. I wasn't paying that much money for drugs when she was at home because I was going to the drugstore and I was getting a discount. That part I'm not happy with."

"We toured Mustang Creek Estates - Burleson for assisted living. When we got there, the grass hadn't been mowed in a while. Weeds were growing up, so it didn't look very kept. Everybody had their bedrooms, but it was more of a group home. It's a house with several bedrooms and the care staff does the cooking there. Their pricing was all-inclusive. We seriously considered them. It's just a very loosely done assisted living. I think it's for a high-level assisted living, someone that pretty much takes care of themselves. They did have around-the-clock staff, so that was good. It just didn't seem like there was any oversight as far as what was going on. I looked in the kitchen because it's right off of the living room and it's an open plan, but it didn't show like the city inspection thing. I was a little uncomfortable with how they were doing their meals. I think it would be fine for the right people. It wasn't a good fit for my father because he would need more hands-on than I think they were prepared to give there. They were the cheapest. They built it to have 14 bedrooms in each home and it's set up like a regular house. You've got your living room, your kitchen, and your laundry area. It would have been a good choice for him like five years ago, but not today. We were there on a Friday and someone was singing. They had activities. The staff during the tour was good. It was the corporate person who did an outstanding job. The outdoor area wasn't aesthetically pleasing. They had some rocking chairs on the front porch. As far as landscaping and that kind of stuff, it's very sparse. Besides the chairs on the porch, I didn't see anywhere else where they had a courtyard or a garden area with some trees or any kind of structure for shade or a protected area to be out there. I wasn't pleased with that. It did smell, so that's not a good thing. I just wasn't happy with that one. I wasn't impressed."

"Heartis just opened up. It’s a really convenient, wonderful place. The food is just fantastic, and they have a chef who's really good with the people there. All of the people are really caring and excellent. I would refer anyone to go there. The price is comparable with all the other prices. It’s just really special. "

"I will move into Wilshire Senior Living, which meets my requirements for space and amenities. I'm living in a 1,850-square-foot cottage with an attached two-car garage. It's more like a home than anything else. There are 32 or so cottages around a huge pond, and four of them are large like mine, and I have one of those four. The staff was great. They were perfect, and I still interact with them whenever needed. They're very responsive and professional. They have three meals a day, seven days a week."

"What a gorgeous facility. I had a wonderful tour with Leon Polk, the Community Relations Director, and couldn't have been more pleased. The entire staff that I met helped me so much as I begin this journey with my mother. I know that she would love it and I wanted to move in myself. I couldn't ask for more in a facility!!! "

"The thing that I appreciated about Brookdale Richland Hills was they have a two-week minimum respite. I was impressed with the gal giving me the tour. It was nice. The staff was great. The dining room looked good. The upkeep was nice. They had a salon."

"My husband will be moving to Avalon Memory Care-Arlington. We chose it because of the facility itself, and the people are super nice and the facility is well-maintained. It's beautiful. It's a good size, modern, and clean. They have a garden, an activity center, arts and crafts, and music. He just hasn't started there yet."

"My father has lived in Avalon Memory Care for two months now. They’ve been great, very helpful, I don’t feel I have to worry about him, and they’re doing a great job. They’re very attentive, always take care of issues, very friendly, and don’t ignore me. I have no issues with them. The rooms are clean, sufficient, and he has plenty of room for his bed, chair, and personal items. I like the idea of wooden floors versus carpets, it’s easier to clean, and the whole place is very nice. The dining area is clean, attractive, and well-kept up. I liked the idea of everybody being together in one big area, along with the kitchen staff. He can look outside his bedroom area and see trees and plants. They have a patio area where he can go out and sit out there."
