Named for Revolutionary War hero General Joseph Warren, Warren County is a 430 square mile area of eastern Missouri that's home to more than 6,000 residents aged 65 and over. For members of this population who have been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease or other types of dementia, there are two memory care facilities within the county available to provide care.
These facilities are officially recognized by the state of Missouri, including Warren County, as Assisted Living Facilities and Residential Care Facilities. The Licensure and Certification Unit in the Department of Health and Senior Services is responsible for licensing or certifying RCFs and ALFs.
- The overall cost of living in Warren County is 2.7% below the national average of 100 and healthcare costs are 3.5% below the national average. Costs are also low compared to nearby St. Louis, making Warren County an attractive option for families on a budget seeking memory care in the region.
- Seniors in Warren County are subject to Missouri state taxes which are somewhat friendly for retirees. While income from social security is exempt for single filers who make under $85,000 per year, most other forms of retirement income are taxable. Some deductions are available for those on public pensions.
- Families concerned about security may appreciate that Warren County has a low rate of crime when compared with the U.S. and state averages. The county's violent crime rate is 5.1 points lower than the national average of 22.7, and the property crime rate is 7.6 points lower than the Missouri average of 41.4.
- Warren County has few facilities from which to choose in the event of a medical emergency or illness, with the nearest major hospital specializing in brain health and dementia care located in St. Louis.
