"My aunt was in the assisted living facility. It has a lot of activities, which I was happy to see. We got to eat lunch with her there, and it had an area that you could walk around outside without having the doors locked because it was kind of in a circle. She liked that really well. One of the activities she did with them was planting some roses in their garden. She stayed there about three months, and the staff was really good. They always came in and reminded her of who they were and what function they had there. Their food was really nice, too. She was also able to sit at different tables that she wanted to. She liked not being assigned a place, but sitting down where she wanted to talk with people. She made a little circle of friends there."

"Bickford of Urbandale was the best. It was a very nice place. I liked that as they were giving me a tour, they were saying hello by name to the residents, and everybody seemed to be like a family. The rooms were all nice, but all of them were small. I suggested to my aunt that if she decides to come back here, this place would be a good one. The staff was very friendly, including the manager, the physical therapist, and the janitor. They were all nice people. I saw the dining area, and it was also nice. "

"My mom has lived in independence village for 8 years and she has loved every minute of it. From the amazing activities offered by a wonderful staff to the wide variety of food she gets served every day. The facility is beautiful and well maintained. The best part is the relationships she has made with both staff and the other residents. Independence village comes highly recommended from us!"

"My mother is in Eden Acres in Perry. She likes it there, but she's too independent, too cognizant, too outgoing to feel tied up. She was there with my dad and my dad passed. She was in assisted living with my father and then he went to long term care in the same facility, so she stayed in assisted living to be close to my dad who was just down the hall. The facility is extremely clean and well taken care of. My mom's assisted living apartment is almost as big as my 800 sq ft house. She paid $2800 and everything is included. If she moved 20 miles closer to Des Moines, it would have cost her $4400, so the price is definitely right. A $1500 difference is a lot of money for someone that's retired. They cover everything. I know that it's tiered; as far as the assisted living. My mom is in tier 1 because she doesn't really need a lot of help, they just come in for temperature checks every day. She gets her food, too, because the price includes everything. It's very clean. The long-term place that my dad was also in were single rooms. He didn't have to share rooms with anybody. The rooms also include an ensuite bathroom, which you don't find in many places. I've eaten there with her before as well. They have 3 different chefs there and I can honestly say that the food was exceptional. It's just a beautiful facility and it's 28 miles from Des Moines so I would highly recommend it to everyone."

"Rowley Masonic Community was more hospital looking. They have individual apartments, but they had the hospital bed in there and everything was kind of built-in. You could hardly bring in any of your furniture. The staff member during the tour was wonderful. She sent me a Thank You note saying, "Hopefully you'll keep us in mind should you need another place." The food smelled good. You could bring in your chair and maybe a small table in your room. I was given a list of their activities. I only toured the dementia area of it."

"My husband's aunt is in Windsor Manor Nevada. I have been there before, and it is a gorgeous place that is very clean, very well appointed, and very well laid out. When I visited, there were lots of people that seemed to be busy socializing with each other. It's just very nice. They have people come in to do crafts with them or play music. I know they have a bus that takes my husband's aunt into town every day. Her husband is in the hospital, so they drive her in every day, then pick her up and bring her back. "

"We toured Spurgeon Manor. The rooms were bigger and carpeted. They had more options for activities. They had more to offer, and the facility was much bigger. They have more food options. They have three choices for a meal versus the other place where they have one. The people were knowledgeable and accommodating. They gave us all the information, and they answered all the questions. The rooms were very clean. They have lots of amenities. They have sitting rooms, puzzle rooms, and a huge garden."

"We toured the Brio of Johnston. We like that one a lot. We have some friends that already live there. They were very, very, very nice. We weren't quite as crazy about the floor plans. We had a couple of meals there. It's very new and very modern and has a lot of amenities for exercise."

"I cannot say enough about the quality of care and staff at this facility. Mom exceeded our capacity to care for her in our home, and a relative recommended Senior Suites of Urbandale. We spoke with the staff, toured the facility, and made a decision to place her in their Veranda care facility. The staff there, regardless of the hour we visited, was always so very caring to the residents (not just Mom), they treat their residents like their own family. The facility was always neat, clean and the staff were always engaged, whether in caring for or providing activities for the residents. If you're looking for a place for a loved one where you can have peace of mind knowing they're in great hands, choose Senior Suites of Urbandale. For the degree of care provided, they are an exceptional value!"

"I went to Meadowview of Clive. It's the cheapest of the other places that we have visited. It's more affordable. I like the two-bedroom-one-bath. As for the staff, Susan seems to be a nice lady. She's a good manager. The place is something that we liked."
