"My mom was at Beach Terrace. It was a very comforting place. The people were extremely nice. The staff and all the workers, they were all really, really helpful and knowledgeable. They did a great job with my mom. They were very accommodating, so it was a good experience. I was really happy with them. The place was clean and in a very nice shape. Everything was well taken care of. They were just very understanding. And it started with the receptionist when I walked in, she's a very sweet girl. The menu was good and the food was good, too. It was good quality. I watched a few of them bowling, and then a church group came in and did worship, and that was good. They had a lot of activities. Once a month, they had something where they invited the families. It was very affordable, and cheaper than most, for sure. There was nothing I wasn't satisfied with."

"My parents are at Rowntree Gardens. They're very good. The staff is very nice and kind. They have pretty gardens and nice lunch area and there are several of them. There's one in their little building and there's a really big dining area. Their big courtyard is all gardens. They have some outside shuffleboard. They have little outside activities and music. They have a very nice suite that I got to stay in and it was 75 dollars, but that's not too bad. That was a plus. I think they like the food personally, but I didn't get to eat there. Value for money is pretty good."

"This was one of the better assisted living facilities I've ever visited as a student volunteer. The institution is divided into two wards: those who need constant medical attention and supervision and those who can care for themselves. Every week, I visited the later ward to provide some recreational activities. Each of the residents gets their own room and bathroom, which they decorated with their personal touch. The overall atmosphere is a gentile and friendly one. A few of the residents gets upset or depressed because they haven't seen their family in a while. But some of the residents who have lived there longer try to cheer them up by inviting them to tea or some recreational game. The supervisors always make sure that the residents have something to do most of the time. They have an aviary with some of the most charming singing birds, and a rec room with musical instruments and books. I understand that to upkeep a facility like this one comes at a considerable costs, which is the main compliant I've heard from other families. But, their loved ones receive the care that they should be receiving from home."

"We toured here and it was a really clean place. The rooms there are very big and fantastic, and everyone was just so nice when you walk in, and they greeted everybody. It was nice there. They took us to the other side and they showed us the rooms."

"My husband is staying at Brittany House. We were here before the ownership change. Every single feature was beyond our imagination, like personal care and such. The caregivers themselves were outstanding in the care they gave to our whole family. They knew all of our names and were kind. Even now in hospice my husband has three or four care workers that he had in the past that come see him every day on their way in or going home. They just go the extra mile in caring. The ratio of caregivers wobbled a bit. The communication between administration and us got to a bad place once the sale went through, but that is coming back around. They are more available, open, and responsive. They've also upped the caregiving ratio to an excellent level. The food looks good. The facility is clean, neat, and well-manicured inside and out. I've never smelled any unpleasant smells. The cleaners are constantly maintaining it at a high level. It's attractive and kind of a low Spanish building. The colors are nice and soothing. You can sit anywhere in the sitting areas. There's a man who is an Elvis impersonator who comes and puts on shows, and the residents love that. They played music he liked and showed videos during the afternoon. It's very expensive."

"I also visited a couple of facilities -- one in Orange and one in Garden Grove -- and they were really run down and not in good shape at all. You can really tell the difference. The Brookdale at Garden Grove was a little bit better. I did feel like this was a better facility, and the people were welcoming. The residents seemed a little more engaged, and there was a very positive atmosphere here. The director here was willing to work with me. The facility is OK, and it would have been fine, but the other facility ended up being better. "

"Meadowlark Gardens I was very nice and clean. It was a regular house in a regular neighborhood, and that was what I was looking for. The staff who assisted me with the tour was very friendly and helpful. I saw some residents there in their wheelchairs watching TV. I saw a private room, and it was very clean and very nicely decorated. The courtyard had tables and stuff."

"Home R Us was very nice and clean. The lady there was, I supposed, the one who owns the place. It had pictures of her family all on the wall. The room they showed us could be for two people or one and it was very clean. It was just hot in the room (but those were very hot days, too). The living room had a nice sitting area. It's homey. They only have one big bathroom. The owner was kind of a young woman. She was very sweet and kind. She said they have activities. She didn't specify what they all do, but I saw books lying around and they have a big TV there. They don't have something like taking them out on excursions or anything."

"Walnut Village is very unique. It’s built right around the Village Square, and they have a little post office and a little shop with sundries, with the apartments built around it. I liked the idea that it has a real chapel and not just a room that they call the chapel. I have many friends there and they love it. Most of the people I know that are in a place are in Walnut Village, and they are extremely happy. I liked the idea that you can have a little spiritual area, too. "
