I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My sister is at Hilltop Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. She is a hospice patient. What I like best about this facility is the way it looks, the overall appearance, and the aesthetics of it. What I like least about them is the administration. They have poor judgment. My sister had an accident in her bed, and she rang the bell, turned on the light, and did everything she was supposed to do. However, they never came. They were out of toilet paper, and she was lying in poop. She had to call her ex-boyfriend. He brought her toilet paper, and he had to clean her up. On his way in, there was a patient out of her wheelchair lying on the floor whom he helped up and got back into her wheelchair. Nobody ever did come with the poop incident. When I complained to the administration about it, they said, "Oh, that must have been when we were having a Christmas party." It was huge numbers of staff members, and they were having a jolly old good time. They had their Christmas party from 2:00 in the afternoon to 5:00 that afternoon. She said, "But we had at least one person in every hall." That was her excuse for my sister, with nobody ever going into her room and assisting with that problem. Then I was there on Wednesday, and people kept coming into my room, going through my sister's dresser drawer and her roommate's dresser drawer, and the closet, and looking all around the room, and I asked them, "What are you doing?" They said, "Oh, we're having a scavenger hunt." I said, "You do not need to be going through my sister's private dresser." My sister is paranoid already, so they hide something in the room of a paranoid person? Oh, how fun is that! Let's scare her a little more! Then a group came in there. They were opening the closet, looking through everything, opening the dressing door, and rummaging through the clothes. I told them, "Stop that. That's an invasion of privacy." This one girl, who was obviously very ignorant, said, "We're not taking anything. This is a scavenger hunt. It's all in good fun." I said, "Do not go into my sister's private clothing. Do not. That is an invasion of privacy, and it's unethical." However, she kept doing it. My sister is already scared because she's paranoid. So, this girl goes around the bed to her, looks around, and she says, "Oh, I found it. Let's get out of here." I reported that to the director of nursing, who was very shocked. She said, "I knew there was going to be a scavenger hunt, but I didn't know that they were going to go into patients' rooms and go into their stuff." Like, what is this place, a party place? Do they care more about their employees having fun than taking care of their residents who are paying beaucoup money to stay there? That's definitely below average. The administration approved of the party, and that's why I think that the administration is not good at all. They're not smart. My sister is always asking us to bring her food, so we bring her food. However, food looked good. I tasted it. It wasn't bad. It was coleslaw, a battered fish, a piece of buttered bread, and French fries. So, dinner looked fine.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My brother is at Hilltop Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. They take care of him, provide him meals, and bathe him. They have CNAs that come in and accompany him. They help him eat because he's now having trouble eating. He does have a roommate because he has a shared room. They attend to him medically. They do good work there. They walk me through all the process to get my brother in there and even get him qualified for Medicaid. They've been very helpful. They have group sessions where they play games or do a little dancing for those who can dance. Their meals are good.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

Staff are not trained in how to redirect and interact with Alzheimers patients. My dad, even with an ankle bracelet, wandered out of the facility numerous times. He has only been a resident for one day and they called us to come get him or they threatened to send him to a psychiatric facility. The staff is not accommodating at all, but they know they are one of the few funded VA options. It's a real shame when you serve your country for over 25 years and when you are in need you are unable to get the care you deserve.

I visited this facility

I wasn't very impressed with the facility at all. The staff wasn't very friendly and it was hard to find someone to answer questions. There was nothing entertaining for the residents to do other than Bingo on Sunday afternoon for about an hour. The food wasn't appetizing. I wouldn't suggest placing a loved one here it reminded me of a state run facility.
