My mother has been in St James Place for less than a month now. So far, it's been outstanding. They have worked very closely with us, from my initial visit up to now. There's not a single negative thing that we could say. It's been great. Her room is just a single-person room, and she has no roommate, so it's a private room. I don't recall any room options that they have in the memory care section, but I like the security of it, and that's important to us. We have access to her, not just at the window or on the cellphone, and we can visit her twice a week. Their prices are on the high side, but they were willing to negotiate with us to help meet our budget.

St. James Place is three to four blocks from my son's house. They have independent, assisted living, and a nursing home, which was key. They had an indoor pool. It's a huge, wonderful place with rooms outside, patio homes, and beautiful landscaping. They have elevators because it's three floors. It was very good. The people were friendly and call the patients by name; that made me feel comfortable. The staff member who assisted me was wonderful. We saw the dining area, and they had good chefs.

St. James Place was wonderful, but I can't afford it. It's beautiful. I have friends who are there and my sister looked at it too. I loved it. The rooms that we saw were very nice and had high ceilings. If it weren't for my finances, I would probably move in in a minute. It had grounds, a lot of green space, and a lake. You could have a garden home, a cottage, a 2-bedroom, or a 1-bedroom. You could choose assisted living or memory care. It would cost more, but you could progress and still stay in the same place. The staff member I met was very friendly and very nice. Everyone spoke to you as you walked down the hall. The food was delicious.

My parents lived in St. James for quite a few years, my dad is still there. The place is pretty ideal for where to live in retirement, very good facility with many opportunities for a pleasant life. The best thing about it is the staff, they really make a effort and take good care of you based on the level of care. I notice one reviewer said otherwise and I have to say I was very surprised by that, I'm sorry if there was a bad experience for them but it may not have been anyone's fault. In Assisted Living they check in with my dad numerous times every single day to make sure he is well and whether he needs anything. In Independent Living, that is not the level of care that is expected, they give you more space unless you request help.

St. James Place was very inviting. The lunch was excellent. The apartments were very large and had a bedroom, apartment, and townhouse with a garage. It was absolutely gorgeous, but out of my price range. The people were very good. It was a good place with a homey atmosphere and lots of activities. It was very large and had different dining facilities and a chapel. Everything was there. It was the largest of the four facilities that I had seen.

St. James Place is outrageously expensive. Skilled nursing is $10,000 a month, $120,000 a year, and the service is very poor. The people are very rude. The place looks clean, but the staff is terrible, not friendly, and not caring. The people in their rooms call for help and nobody comes. The dining area looks clean, but the food looks bad. There aren't any activities. The residents are stuck in their rooms 24/7. We put my mom there, and we're paying $12,000 a month for one little room in skilled nursing. She was calling for help yesterday and nobody came to help her. She was laying in bed for three hours with her feces all over and nobody came to change or help her. She was calling for help at 4:30, pulling the bell, but nobody came. That clearly showed the level of neglect these people have of their residents.

Facility looks nice on the inside and out but the staff is horrible. My family member was grossly mistreated ( had 2 heart attacks and they did nothing till the next day) the staff is a revolving door never the same ones there and the ones that are there are only there for a paycheck, they could care less about the residents

Mom was at St. James Place about 10 or 11 years. We weren’t unhappy with them at all, but we just needed to move her closer to us. I know they were having some having financial issues and cutting some corners. They let the long-term staff go and hired people with less experience, and I wasn’t happy with that. The new staff were kind of sloppy. The new activity director did not know anybody's name. They have gone from a place that we were happy with to a place that we weren't happy with.

I've heard about St. James from friends at work. The building itself is nothing like a nursing home. It looks more like a hotel, and it's a very nice building. They keep it clean. The staff is very attentive, and they treat my mom very well. They take good care of her, and they do lots of activities with her, too. They have a dietitian who works there, and they make sure that she gets the right amount of food that she needs. They keep track of her weight. They make sure she's gaining weight but not too much weight. We chose to put her in a room with a roommate so she wouldn't be by herself. The rooms are large, clean, and they're freshly painted. There's a doctor who is there every day, Monday through Friday. There's a clinic, and people come in and see him. And if she has any issues, all we have to do is call the doctor and he can go up and see her.

I went to St James Place for a seminar and so I was able to visit the facility. They did show us around to the different rooms there. The bedrooms looked like they were of a pretty good size room. I just met the administrative people that showed us around and they were nice.

I am in independent living, not life care. I have been happy with St. James. I have a comfortable apartment, some cleaning and laundry services, no charge for electricity, no yard upkeep, no homeowners insurance, plenty of social activities, transportation to doctor's visits and grocery stores if I need it, and many opportunities to mix with other active seniors. Food is not gourmet, but it's ok.. Nothing is perfect but I like it here,
such a waste of money

Wish someone would have warned me about this place before my precious parents got suckered in by the look of this place. The nursing care is horrible!! The staff is rude and management is confused and does not know how to care for the elderly. My mom was full of bedsores before her death and my dad couldnt get help and would wait an hr before someone answered a call light. The food is horrible and no one knows anything about the patients but a lot about the gossip. Nurses and aides disappear so no help can be found. Really disappointing that my parents chose to spend the last days of thier lives there where they were promised a great life and was tortured basically.

St. James Place fulfills all the needs of my mother. The care, from skilled nursing, to assisted living, all the amenities are all in one complex. Everything's been fine and they're taking care of her needs, the therapy for rehab as well as doctors on staff. It all worked out well. The rooms were fine. They provide all your needs, but you can bring your personal belongings there.

St. James place is a great place for the elderly to retire. Its located in a a great part of Baton Rouge where there is no crime problem and the grounds are beautiful. The staff at St. James Place are extremely nice and very welcoming. They always ask how the residents are doing and just make sure that everything is running smoothly. The elderly love taking walks around the property because the grounds are kept in such good shape. The kitchen does and great job of preparing good southern food and the dining atmosphere is like a nice restaurant. Overall its just a great place for any elderly person to be.

My grandfather spent the last two years of his life at this facility. He was a spunky old man and while at first he strongly felt the loss of independence he grew to enjoy his time here. The building and entryway, as well as the inside of the facility, were very nice and calming. It felt very open and well lit. The large foyer seemed more like a hotel to me than a hospital and my grandfather enjoyed that. The staff was probably the best I have seen at any assisted living facility. I think it was the relationships which my grandfather built with the staff that made his acclimation easiest. He kept a pocket book with their names written in it to help him remember, and when he would write me he would always tell me stories of what they had done with him. Because he was so incredibly socially minded, I think that had the staff not been helpful and kind, he would not have adjusted well to the setting. I remain grateful to them for the help they provided.
