"I toured Cedar Woods. I like that one. They had a balcony. Everyone, even residents, came up to me and said they liked it. It was very good. I would consider that one. I liked everything about it, including where it was located."

"Our tour of Covenant Living of Cromwell was great. It was awesome. It was like a hotel when you walked in there. It was absolutely beautiful. The staff was amazing. They had a cafeteria, a restaurant, and then they had a coffee shop. So there were three places you could go for a meal. They had a snack room, too. They allow you to have three meals a day, but it was like a credit card setup where they give you so much money every month and allotment for food. I think it was $300 for each person a month. The menus were awesome. The apartments were very nice. They even had a deck where you could go outside (each one had a patio deck). It's very quiet and you could bring pets if you wanted to. They had a movie theater, a music room, and an activities room where you could crochet or needlepoint or have any hobbies, you could do it there. They kept their residents engaged with a bunch of activities going on. We would have picked it, but we just couldn't afford it. It was a little on the high side."

"We got a tour of Holiday Lodge at Cold Spring. The staff did a wonderful job, but it's not my type of place. It seemed like it was a place for rich people. They didn't have a stove in the kitchen, and I couldn't understand that at all. The facility was very decent and very clean. The amenities that they had there were the same as the other place. You could use the bus, you could get your hair done, you could go to recreation, and you could have PT. The marketing person who gave us the tour was very good and gave a lot of information. She gave me a folder with a menu in it, and the menu looked pretty good. The dining area was very nice. I met the recreation director and the maintenance guy, and they were all very nice."

"Robyn was the person who led the tour at Atria Larson Place, and she was phenomenal. She made you feel like a family. The property itself was lovely, decorated very nicely, and very up-to-date. The residents seemed very friendly. People would say hello. We were taken on a tour of their small cafe, dining area, and the activities room. There was a concert going on when we were there, and the apartment seemed lovely. Then we met with Greg, the business person, and went over the details. He was also very nice and willing to work with you. It was overall a very positive experience, and my aunt's looking forward to moving there. We had no complaints about anything. It was just lovely. We looked at a studio at first, and it was adequate. It wasn't large, but it had a little bit of separation from the living area. It was a nice set up for being a studio, but we preferred the one bedroom, which wasn't more money at that point, and it seemed to be a bit larger than one of the other places we looked at. Their dining area was also lovely. There were tablecloths on it. It wasn't mealtime, so there was no one in there, but it was set up very nice, kind of like a fine restaurant."

"My mother is in Masonicare at Chester Village. We chose it because it was the most country setting, like being in a home. It's not an institution. It's very homey. You have your own apartment. They have a dining room, and they have meals. It's very luxurious. She's independent living, with an aide living with her in her apartment, but they have assisted living and memory care as well. The staff members are all very, very caring, and very helpful. They're always available for whatever you need. If you need maintenance, they fix it. If you can't get your TV on, they come turn it on for you. She has the option to have breakfast, lunch, and dinner in the dining room or she can have breakfast in their apartment. It's like a five-star restaurant. We eat there all the time. There are all kinds of activities. They have everything you could want to do if you're able to do it. They do movies, they do plays, they do bus trips, they have a gym, they have an indoor pool, they have an outdoor pool, and they have walking trails. They take them to dinner at outside restaurants three times a week with the bus. They have all kinds of stuff. If you need somebody just to give you meds, they give you meds. If you need somebody to come in and give you showers, they'll give you showers. It's like you can pick and choose what you need."

"I toured Victoria Gardens Apartments. They provide meals, and they have transportation. They have community groups for everyone and get together. I chose Victoria Gardens Apartments because of the cost and location. The staff was very friendly and informative, but the rooms could be a little bigger. The place is nice. It has a small library, and the area is quiet. It's close to parks and walking, and my bank is close by."

"We toured the independent living part of Peconic Landing and it was a very positive experience. The facility is beautiful. The actual location of it is right on the water which gives it almost a vacation feel that, at times, I thought we were at a country club. They have many amenities that I think my parents would certainly be taking advantage of. What we like most about it is the proximity to where we will be living. My son works right across the water from there so I think the proximity is number one. I think my parents would be very happy there. There are very wonderful apartment accommodations that they were very happy with and it's easy to get around. It looks like there are a lot of happy residents walking around saying hello, and a lot of activities they can take advantage of while they're there. We did not have a chance to try the food, but they have a beautiful waterfront restaurant where they shared the menu with us. They were also cooking while we were there and it smelled wonderful. They had quite a choice of entrees for dinner. They also have a bistro which is a little more casual. They offer a complimentary breakfast each day and they also have what they're doing now which is points for the meal plan. They give you a certain number of points per month and you can use them as you choose. If you don't want the full meal, you don't need to get it. If you just want the soup you can use fewer points than the full meal points."

"I toured Fairview - The Odd Fellows Home of Connecticut. I was hoping to get my aunt in there. It's superb. I know them from having visited the father of a friend three years ago who was in their skilled nursing/memory care, and they're amazing at what they do in their memory unit, even so far as finding out from the family what kind of music that the individual likes. Each resident got a little Nano. They had a cage of lovebirds and a beautiful aquarium. It's very enriching, especially for people like my aunt now who doesn't have an immediate grasp on their memories. The staff was truly excellent and incredible. It is the most updated one here for skilled nursing. They just went through an incredible rebuild two to three years ago. It's immaculate, plus there were lots of windows and lots of light. It's just clean as can be. They really set the standard."

"Evergreen Woods was fabulous. I liked the congeniality, the food was terrific, they had a private dining room set up, and we could have steak or anything. I have two cats and two dogs, and the CEO came down to me and said, "Don't worry, we'll have all your pets." Everybody we saw was lovely and willing to help; that was very nice. They had everything, and everything was spotlessly clean. It made sense where everything is located -- everything was near to your room or your apartment. The quality is just really good."

"One Macdonough Place was a really good place. I stayed there overnight. The room was very comfortable, and the place was well cared for. I had an extraordinary lunch of a lobster roll for lunch. They had a chef who will make you custom food if you want it. That was quite a place. The staff went out of their way to make sure I got there safely, and they constantly checked on me to make sure I was comfortable. They couldn't have been better. They provided movies in your room or downstairs. There were some people playing board games, and they had a very comfortable room with newspapers. They also had a room where you can get coffee and snacks 24 hours a day."

"Heritage Commons was very good and I was very pleased. It's beautiful. The apartments are gorgeous and they're different sizes according to residents' needs. The make you dinner, but you have a full kitchen in your apartment so you don’t get lunch and breakfast. Everybody was extremely friendly. I liked it. I spoke to a couple of residents and they all spoke highly of it. The dining area was very comfortable. They had a long list of activities."
