"My friend is at Brookstone Estates of Fairfield and is doing very well. I am just totally impressed with the caring atmosphere and the cleanliness. All of my friend's needs are taken care of right there. He doesn't have to leave that facility to live. He has a vehicle, and he chooses to go to Walmart and that type of thing, just because, but it's all inclusive. It's a good place. I understand why it's rated five-stars. My friend does the crafts, and they also have a couple of residents that have started a church service on Sunday, and he doesn't miss those. There is a library. They have a courtyard, which is very nice. That's why my friend chose a two-bedroom apartment, because his door opened out into this beautiful courtyard house, and that's what he sees when he's sitting in his living room instead of just a wall. I thought that was really nice. I have a couple of other church friends who are there that I routinely visit when I see my friend as well. I always brag to them how nice it is. People are friendly. The residents that are out in the main area visiting one another and always seem happy. The cafeteria is pleasant. I really think they go out of the way to try to make it a really good assisted living facility."

"When my grandmother was sick and suffering from dementia my family made the very difficult decision to find a nursing home. She was sent to Flora Garden Center. The facility is average, the rooms and accommodations are not exceptional but it does the trick. I would not send family members or people from out of town there however if you happen to live in the area the accommodations are appropriate and most of residents know one another. It is a small town so there are not a lot of people there which I find to be pretty nice. The place smelled a little of urine, I had never been in a nursing home before so I don't know if this is common. My grandmother stayed there for about a year. There was one nurse who was particularly kind and helped my grandmother out a lot. When my grandmother had moments of clarity she would always say that she wanted to go home. "

"My mom has been at long-term care at Carle Richland Memorial Hospital. It was a part of the hospital that they just made into a long-term care, but we think the CEO's starting to close, 'cause why would you go increase a rate? She was paying like $5,800 and some, to almost $7,300 a month, and that's a huge amount. It's a private pay, that's what they call it, and they're good. You get a little better care than some of the other nursing homes here, so that's why we put her in there when she first had a stroke during heart surgery. She doesn't even really know names of food or anything, and if you ask her what she has for supper, or dinner, she has no clue what you're talking about. I had some issues with a couple of the CNAs. They were just picking the crap out of her trying to aggravate her. It must've been not too bad, but we've had the same issues over the workers in there. She is mad in any way, her personality changed when she had the stroke. I hate it, plus they said they'd given her her share and they didn't do it then, and she smells. That made me mad too. That's the sad part with this COVID, you have no clue what's going on in these places. It's changed several times who has worked in there. Some of them are great, and then others are not so good. It is hospital food, it is OK. They changed the diet up there, so it wouldn't be as good anymore. It's not fancy up there, it's just like an old hospital, a part of a hospital where they stuck these people in the old rooms. Mom's room is tiny. The rooms are all in different sizes, they're caught up, and some of them they put two people in. Mom doesn't have a shared bathroom, but one did. That's one reason we left her in there too. We didn't want her to have a shared bathroom because she still can go to the bathroom on her own, but her room is awful. It's gone downhill up there. It used to be where you wanted your loved ones because they got a little extra special care there, but not anymore."

"Lutheran Care Center provided my family member with an environment that promoted rehabilitation and comfort. All staff members, including the directors, nurses, administrators, social workers, housekeepers, maintenance workers, physical therapists, and kitchen staff, possessed positive, friendly attitudes and made my family member feel comfortable. During my family member's stay at Lutheran Care Center, she was able to focus on getting well as well as having some fun and continuing to do the activities that she loved, thanks to the multiple programs and activities that the facility provided, such as group therapy, Sundae Monday, Quilting Club, chapel, and Spa Day. The facility is beautiful and includes services such as long-term care, assisted living, retirement (independent living) communities, and skilled nursing. The facility as a whole emphasizes individualized, patient-centered, and holistic health care. I would not hesitate to recommend Lutheran Care Center and any of its services to others who are looking for a nurturing environment for themselves or their loved ones. "

"I visited this facility on many different occasions, to deliver flowers to the residents. The outside of the building is very well up-kept. I was always greeted by a staff member at the front desk who would assist me in finding the resident I had flowers for. The facility was always clean, and had a nice relaxing atmosphere to it. The residents always seemed happy and well taken care of. From what I saw, the staff was very quick to respond to residents needs, as well as just chatting with residents. The staff always asked residents how they were doing, if they needed anything, and listened to them intently. Every time I went the cafeteria was clean, with a few residents eating or socializing in it. There is a large room near the entry way that has a wonderful feel to it. There is a large bird cage with many different birds flying around. Potted plants and decorations give the room a very relaxing feel. Many of the residents would be seated in the room, watching the birds and sometimes talking to one another. A staff member was always in sight or around the corner, and would come if needed. The residents rooms that I saw were always clean, with a few gifts or crafts, but not too much clutter. Overall I think this is a great nursing-home. The staff members seem to really care about the residents, and from what I've seen always treat them very nicely. "

"My mother is in Effingham Rehab, the staff members are all amazing, and they're really nice and caring. The building is older, but it's clean, and the staff is better than in other newer places. They also have activities for the residents, although my mom is in no condition to participate. I've seen people reading and doing crafts."

"The facility was kept clean and the usual nursing home smell was kept to a minimum. Rooms were clean and neat as well, and I never heard a complaint from my aunt about the cleanliness. The dining room was well-lit and cheery and clean, and the commons area was nicely decorated for the appropriate season or holiday.Staff was firendly to us when we visited, but the only complaint about the facility I ever heard from mom or aunt was about a careless or rude staff member. I spoke to the director about these complaints and she asssured me the employee in question would be talked to about the situation - she was responsive.The food was adequate at best, as it usually is in the less well-to-do nursing homes, but my aunt seemed to be well fed and had no major, consistent complaints about the food. Meds were given consistently and other care - baths, hair, etc. - were taken care of in a professional way.Overall I was pleased with the care at Lakeland and my mother and aunt were as well. "

"The assisted living provider was adequate but nothing fancy. He complained of the food and some of the services, but overall he seemed satisfied with the care and was happy to have wifi access when in the building. Apparently, a staff member resembled Tom Hardy which I'm sure made things far easier than they could have been. Overall, he seemed comfortable and well-taken are of even if the staff was hesitant to meet his requests at times. "
