"I visited Cedar Crest. I was probably there half a dozen times in total for various reasons. My overall impression is it would be an excellent place for assisted living. It's quite large. It's four or five buildings. It's quite a large operation. Generally speaking, I found it to be attractive and well-run. I've eaten there a few times and the food looked good. I have not one complaint about the food or the service. They have a lot of activities that they do there. I observed some men playing pool and I observed people just generally interacting in the common area. They have a large place for movies or gatherings. These people know what they're doing. The staff followed through on what I said I wanted. It's possible that I will end up going there in three years. The facilities were great."

"My mother joined Assisted Living almost a year ago. She is a “people person” and wanted to dine and socialize with others rather than stay at home with a solitary caretaker. The staff was super helpful in helping Mom move in and acclimate. The facility is lovely and has many amenities that are available to both Independent Living residents and those in Assisted Living. Assisted Living units are divided into households of 15-18 studios and apartments, and each household features a large common living room, porch, parlor and dining room where residents congregate, socialize and dine. While some residents prefer to remain to themselves, others seem to enjoy the camaraderie that quickly develops. Mom has made several new friends and she regularly attends many well-planned activities that are sprinkled throughout the week. (Residents receive monthly calendars, so they can circle the activities that they’d like to attend.) The dining staff is courteous and helpful. Menus are provided in advance for residents to make their selections. And there are always “regular items” that can be ordered at any time, in case the offered choices are not to one’s liking ( eg., generous sandwiches, hamburgers, salads, ice cream, etc.) Alex Trotta, head of Resident Services for the Fellowship Village Medical Center, always goes above and beyond. He knows all of his residents personally and he always looks for ways to make programmatic improvements. If I had one suggestion for programs, it would be to “beef up” the weekend activity offerings, which can be scarce. But ALL of the existing weekday programs are well-attended and well received! In short, I would HIGHLY recommend Fellowship Village! My mother is thriving there at nearly 92 years of age!!!"

"A loved one is at The Holland Christian Home. Everybody loves it, they're wonderful. The staff, the care, the cleanliness, the food, are excellent. They have all kinds of activities, buses take them places, and they have a big auditorium. They are involved with the Christian Reform Church, so they have group services. They have a wonderful staff. They just added a whole new wing and it's beautiful. Everybody has their own room in the acute care section, and it is wonderful. The food is very good."

"Christian Health Care Center is a gorgeous facility. It's always kept very clean and there's never an odor. I like the thoroughness of the employees there. They're very good at managing difficult behaviors. They have a barber shop and they did a really good job with dad's haircut and shaving. They have daily activities. They're working in a garden area and at mealtimes, they play soothing music for them. They've just been very thorough, and communicative when needed, but not overly so. They do a really good job giving him a variety of meals even though he is on a chopped diet. He is currently on Medicaid there."

"My mom was a resident of Downtown Brooklyn Nursing and Rehabilitation. It was clean. They're very attentive. The exercise rehab has made her stronger. So she was able to recover faster by walking around and getting stronger and I was very satisfied with that. I think the main activity is just to get the person more mobile, to get them to walk around more, and get them stronger. The staff is very professional and attentive because they're always checking in and making sure everything is okay. The only negative was the food. The food was not good. Somebody did a survey for them. I told them that they needed to change the caterer for the place, or whatever that food has to change."
