"Oakmont of Torrance was a very thorough and upscale memory care. They showed me the grounds and they're very clean and very neat. There was an activity going on for Father's Day. I think they had a casino day and there were a lot of people who were interested in attending the function. Everything was clean and the person who showed us around, the nurse, was very thorough. The rooms were adequate. They're basic. They have walk-in showers, which is really nice, and they had double rooms, so you could either share a room or you could bring a family member. What I liked about it is on the outside of the door, they put pictures and all the memorabilia of the person that's living there in a case to help them remember. I thought that was neat. That shows that each room was an individual room. It was quite a facility. It was really nice."

"Evergreen Haven was situated in a nice community. It was a nice, well-kept, private home with an attendant who took care of the residents. It seemed like you can get plenty of help there. The house was very neat and comfortable with a cheerful setting. It was well equipped for a handicapped person. "

"I like that the Ivy Park at Palos Verdes was off of traffic. Their outside resting area was overlooking the base of a mountain. There's a lot of greenery. Their memory care specialist seemed to be well versed there processing adults with dementia and Alzheimer's. It was nice. The one-bedroom apartment or the studio apartment was very nice. The people were incredibly pleasant. I looked at the whole facility, and the memory care is on the third floor. That's my first choice."

"At the start, Peninsula Point by Cogir was absolutely wonderful! I toured over 12 facilities and researched over 20 possible places for my mom who has dementia. Peninsula had a very welcoming team who were attentive and made my mother feel at home. Since then, some of the team members have left and there have been some changes in staffing. The place was brand new at the time of move in and was very clean. It’s a large community for assisted living as well as having a separate, secured memory care. The memory care is what I’m most familiar with. Peninsula Point has a monthly calendar and tours a lot of various activities, such as Tai Chi. They, especially, have a lot of live music and holiday themed festivities. We participated in a grandparents’ day brunch in the main dining room. There are some activities that do not happen, such as a petting zoo that I came up for, but found out it was cancelled. They have a salon downstairs, an upstairs game area and an outdoor patio that isn’t fully utilized. I try to take my mom outside for some fresh air whenever the weather is nice. They recently got a community van to use for more outings. Since the start, my mother seems less satisfied and complains about the other residents as well as the food. She’s been reverting back to her native tongue so it’s been difficult for her to communicate. I have also, unfortunately found her room to be dirty and stained a few times, which since I’ve brought it up, has improved. Most of the staff are friendly, helpful and seem to truly care about my mother."

"We really wanted to go to Belmont Village Rancho Palos Verdes, but they didn't have any two-bedrooms available. They were very friendly. We got to meet the chef, and they will cater the meals to you. The food was excellent, too. They were very warm and accepting. The marketing director was very sweet. She tried so hard to get us in there, but we could not wait for a two-bedroom unit to be available."
