"Countryside is very close to Martinsburg. It was newer, has better layout, nicely landscaped and very clean. The house was brighter, more open and homey. The rooms were very large. They had a bed, a chair, dressers and a huge space. The kitchen was a brand new, commercial kitchen. All the food was made in the dining room. It was a large dining room with several long tables. They had a sitting room and a great, big family room. The families are responsible for transportation but the staff was very friendly. I do know they had holiday get-togethers. "

There care and love is like no other. Mellissa and her staff are unbelievable not one time when my parent was sick did Mellissa leave their side she is our angel on earth. "My maternal grandfather who just passed away last fall was a resident of VMP Milwaukee, moving from the assisted living wing, to the nursing home end of the facility over the course of three years. The staff was exceptionally friendly, and genuinely seems to care about their residents. To the point they are not only very personable and engaging with the residents, but to the point they recognize the family members and visitors who are there on a regular basis, even when the resident is not present to give them a reminder. I was not there quite as often as my parents were, but some of the staff even remembered me on sight and would inquire about my children etc. which I found to be quite surprising whenever I was coming by to pick my grandfather up for a family function, or was dropping him off. The assisted/nursing end of VMP is a bit older (former Methodist Manor) probably dating back to the 1960's when it was built, but it is very clean and well kept, and I think the kindness and concern of the staff and how engaged they are with the residents more than makes up for it. The nursing staff, the aides, and various therapists who work there were all uniformly warm and friendly. My whole family, on both sides felt my grandfather was very well cared for and was given the best possible quality of life, and quality of end-of-life possible while he was there. We would recommend the Milwaukee VMP to anyone looking for assisted or nursing home care. "

"My father moved into the long-term section of Twin Oaks-Williamsport Retirement Village. The rooms are a little small, a little tight. The staff has been very nice, but I was a little concerned that it took almost a month to get somebody to do something with the lesion in my father's arm. They bring his food to his room, it looks okay to me, but he's not eating well."

"We got my loved one into Elisabeth House. They provide three meals a day and snacks in between. I can also send her Popeye's for the oven and things like that. I had lunch there, and the food was good. Residents can request food stuff, and they cook everything in the kitchen. It's a little house with a dining room and kitchen area, and everybody sits down and eats dinner together. One of the big selling points is that the facility is very clean. They keep everything nice. The hallways have been widened, and the bathrooms have been made handicapped accessible. There are 10 residents at a time, so it's pretty small. It's private, and the same people work there every day, which I like. It's a great place; I'm super happy with it. They offer activities such as crafts and arts, and a musician comes in once or twice a month. They also go on outings sometimes. The staff is great - I love them. They're all very nice and helpful. The price is within our range, which is great. We also give our loved one a little bit extra every month so that she can get the things she needs. Overall, it's exactly what we were looking for."

"I know another woman that lived here at Homewood at Williamsport a previous time. The last time I went there, they were in the independent living section. The place is very well kept from what I saw. The people seemed happy enough. I would be looking for independent as well as assisted living -- one that would go on to the other. This facility did that and qualified for that. You need to have some assets to get in there. One of the assets they consider that you have to get in there is not whole life or term, but a long term care policy. Then you can easily get in there. It is a very wonderful facility. It's just that I don't want to leave an area where I know a lot of people unless I believe it's going to be early enough in my life to get to know more people or it's the end of my life where it doesn't matter so much. "

"Not being familiar with assisted living facilities, I was still extremely disappointed with this one. None of the staff members spoke clear English, and were not friendly by any means. We were not greeted for quite some time upon arrival and staff members continued to walk by us and said nothing. I did not get the feeling that they were efficient or organized in any way, and most staff members were not able to answer even the simplest of questions. When questioned about how they handled their medications, if a nurse/doctor was present at all, if their meals were personalized for clients (diabetes, etc), they seemed to fumble their answers or did not know the answers. We spoke with a few clients who lived there at the time we were visiting and all of them had very negative things to say about the facility and its' workers. Some of their complaints was that they refused to turn up the heat, the food was always cold, they were only allowed to bathe twice a week, they could not understand what the staff members were saying, etc. After going back a few times to visit our client, the owner accused us of not paying for her services and threatened to kick out our client. We had also heard from others in the facility that the owner has kicked people out before; she put them in a taxi cab with their items and sent them to the local shelter. I went to the facility approximately 6 times, each time being a terrible experience. We worked with the department of social services to get our client placed somewhere else and filed a formal complaint about the facility. "

"We are going to move my brother to this area and are looking for nursing homes. We have called 3 times in the last 2 weeks for an appointment and no one has returned our call. We called for a 4th time this today and the person who answered the phone gave us the phone number to call for an appointment and to ask for Tammy. When we called this number and asked for Tammy the man who answered the call did not know a Tammy and was very confused. We repeated the number 3 times with the first person we talked with so we are sure we were calling the correct number. We will not be calling again or pursuing placement here."

"The Village at Orchard Ridge is very nice, and it had amenities that the other places I looked at did not. Their employees are very nice, and the grounds are absolutely beautiful. It's like a half-mile back from the road, so you have to drive half a mile through a nice landscaped road to get to the place. It's like two miles from Winchester Medical Center and five minutes from Walmart. I couldn't begin to list their activities and amenities, there are just too many. They have a full schedule of anything and everything, they have a library that the other places didn't have, and they provide transportation. The price is expensive when you get into it, but when you're going to be there for five years or more, it's comparable."

"My mother moved to the assisted living facility of Commons at Cumberland. We chose it for her because it's close and has a very good reputation. The residents say the food is quite good, too. They work with you to help you regain your mobility. They have med techs and the nurses, so if anything happens, they're right there. They have a very large community room. You can eat in your room, or you can choose to dine out with the people out in the center of the common area. You have a lot of options. You're also allowed to pick your menu. Their dining area is large, and the table is set up in a square so everybody can see each other and talk to everybody. If you don't feel up to dining there, they'll bring the food in your room. They have all kinds of activities, and they do all kinds of things with the residents. They do cards, and one day they set up and play badminton with balloons. Just things to keep the residents moving to keep their brains active, and they're very ingenious with it."
