"We've been happy with Commonwealth Senior Living at Front Royal. It's a very nice place. The food is excellent and the staff has been caring, so we don't have any complaints. They have activities and I saw their calendar. I have seen an area where they have people putting together puzzles or reading in the library area on the main floor. They also have snacks all day that the people could have go to when they're out. People can go to a special room, like a family room area for people who want to visit there."

"We toured Harmony at Martinsburg. They were very friendly. The facility is very clean, it seems to be very well organized. The residents seem to be very friendly, very happy. I kind of wanted to stay and eat in their dining room. It looked really good and smelled good. They seem to have quite a few things. There's a movie room, a library, there's outside seating and sidewalks. It was warm that summertime, a few of the residents were outside visiting with one another. They do that after meals. They have activities for the residents, monthly activities, and they have food nights like an ice cream social, or different things like that, that they do. So it looked like it could be fun. Everybody we ran into was very friendly, very helpful, and very attentive. They seemed to be very caring. Harmony was a bit more sterile, but it was more of an apartment building effect. The rooms each have a kitchenette area in them."

"I looked at The Village at Orchard Ridge. They're very expensive. They only have one dining room and their food doesn't compare to where I live now. Their staff was very nice. It's very well maintained, but it's relatively new. They do not have the old growth that we have around at the facility I am in. They have a pool and a gym."

"Green Valley Commons was awful and very depressing. The setup for the rooms was not what we would have wanted for our mom. They have shared double rooms, which is typical. Each bathroom is shared by four people, so you have to come out of your room, go into the hallway, and into the bathroom assigned to you. I felt that was very uncomfortable, and very invasive in terms of privacy. For example, it's not private if an elderly person needed to be changed because they had soiled themselves, and after a shower they have to get dressed before they can come out, since they'd be in a public hallway after using the bathroom. It's probably the least expensive place, and it's as good as it can be for the price. We checked the dining area and it as kind of depressing. There's a door to it that leads off into the smoking area, so the smell kind of leads back into the dining area. It was an immedidate turnoff for me."

"My mother-in-law absolutely it here, and so do we. The layout is fantastic for her, and she has activities to do every day. She enjoys her tablemates. The hallways are long and straight so she's doing some PT while walking along them. Everything is fantastic. We love the place. The big thing for her is the daily bingo. They do regular bingo and something else called song bingo, where they hear a song and if that's on the bingo card they cover that. She went out just the other day, and the activities director took them out to get sundaes at McDonalds, which she loves. She's helping out at the library. She's organizing books and putting them away. She's having a ball, she really is, and she thanks us for moving her there. The staff seems to be very caring and knowledgeable about their population. I have seen them interact with residents of all capabilities, and I've really enjoyed watching what I've seen. One of the advantage it has is that it's a small community, so all of the residents really get to know each other. We joke that it's like living in a geriatric dorm. If you want you can walk around in your PJs, or go out in your sweats, or if you want you can get all dressed up. The other advantage they have is that the residents wear alert pendants, so if they fall and get in trouble they can use them. The pendants also have a GPS associated with them so if a person presses the button they would know which part of the building he or she is. In addition to having three meals a day -- which are listed on a white board so the residents can see what they're having -- they do neat things with their food. First they find out what things their residents don't like, and they keep that information posted in the kitchen. So for example if my mom doesn't like lima beans and they're serving that, they don't put lima beans on my mom's plate when they serve her. They give her a different vegetable instead. I just think that's really wonderful. Another thing is that they always have snacks and drinks available. They're in the front lobby area that's outside the dining area. There's always a container of flavored water or lemonade, or something in paper cups, and there are either fresh-baked cookies or packaged snacks so they can just grab those if they want something."

"Grenich Care Home is an actual converted home so it's all accessible. The physical environment is not quite as nice, but the staff was wonderful, very warm, had very good relationships and interactions with the residents, were personable, very welcoming, and were really trying to make it comfortable for families to visit. They have a nice fenced outdoor area in their yard. They’re really good in terms of customer service and in caring for the residents. They're mostly private with some shared rooms."

"Mom was at Care Haven Center. We were very pleased with it. They were really good and it was very clean. I had good communication with the doctors and therapists. The staff was excellent. They were very happy and friendly."

"My mother is in Dutch Haven Assisted Living and I like it all. The layout is great, and it's broken up into little sections. The attendants, nurses, and aides are superior. The dining area is always clean and they serve the food according to the patients; they're great. They do activities like bingo, little art activities, planting activities, and they actually brought in a little bird aviary with finches in it so they can all enjoy it. It has been great. The staff is great and the residents all seemed to enjoy the food, and they fix it the way they can have it. It's an older community, and it's an older home that's converted, so it's very homey and comfortable. They have a lot of activities."

"Coming up to the Hidden Springs Senior Living, it was a scenic drive. it was very beautiful. We spoke to the owner. She gave the tour, and it was great. She was very informative and answered all of our questions. We were not allowed to try the food because of COVID, but we saw the menu, their activities schedule, and stuff like that. The rooms were very spacious and better than I thought they would be. I thought it was very clean. I did not see anything that stood out to be not clean."

"We are going to move my brother to this area and are looking for nursing homes. We have called 3 times in the last 2 weeks for an appointment and no one has returned our call. We called for a 4th time this today and the person who answered the phone gave us the phone number to call for an appointment and to ask for Tammy. When we called this number and asked for Tammy the man who answered the call did not know a Tammy and was very confused. We repeated the number 3 times with the first person we talked with so we are sure we were calling the correct number. We will not be calling again or pursuing placement here."
