When we engaged this hospice, we chose them because they were smaller and local. As time went on, the communication from the hospice became erratic and a problem. In effect, they seemed to be making decisions without our input or even without our knowledge concerning medications particularly. I liked the people, but I couldn't work with the erratic communications. I also observed conflicts between those in authority and those who were doing the daily work. After we made the decision to change our hospice provider because of our frustration, we discovered that the list of meds they sent to the new hospice provider was quite different from what we understood the patient was being given. The patient was not at home, so some of the responsibility may have been with the care home. But hospice is in charge of how their orders are being carried out, so we were quite upset about it. I could not quite figure out why the communication problems but I think it had to do with either conflicts within the personnel or the kind of load the individual carers (nurses, aides) were under. Perhaps being small was not an advantage in the carrying out of their reponsibilities.

It started out great. The aides, the weekend nurse, the Chaplain, the volunteer were the best. The nurse we had, switched her to another nurse without telling us. The first nurse we had made changes to her medication without talking to me. This led to some major problems. The two nurses didn't communicate well with each other or with me. Other things happened that shouldn't have. The Director of Nurses worked to resolve some of the issues, which I appreciated. I just hope they have improved on communication and remember to talk to the family before making changes to medications.

Do your research..they promise the best when you 1st meet but they most certainly don't deliver... they don't communicate well, never updating us on medication changes etc. I would NOT recommend them to anyone! I'm currently searching for a new hospice provider for my loved one.

We were very pleased with Harris Hospice. I would recommend them anytime. The staff was very professional, loving, caring, and very thorough.

Have used Harris for many of my patients needing hospice - have always gotten positive responses from the patients and families about the service the recieved from Harris.
