Everyone at Carpenter House was so kind, caring and thoughtful during this difficult time for my family. They made sure my mom was not in pain (she was dying from Ovarian cancer) and that my Dad sister, and I were taking care of ourselves also. We were hesitant to move my mom away from home when they were unable to control her pain, once we were at Carpenter House we knew we made the right decision. I am eternally grateful for everyone who cared for my mom.

When loved ones are sent to a hospice facility to live out their last days you do not expect long delays in getting a doctor to sign a death certificate. Since this is literally the place that people go with short life expectancy to live out their last days. They want families to have a plan in place when death occurs but their doctors do not have one in place to sign relative documents such as a DEATH CERTIFICATE. The staff tell families "There is nothing that I can do to speed this up", "there is no time line". Doctors sign them on their own time line. Nearly a month and counting no death certificate. Think twice before placing your loved one here. Mourning and closure is not allowed because business is never completed.

ImThis place is misleading. It is a beautiful place on the outside and nice when you walk in the door. However if you look closely there are things that are not nice or clean. Once you walk through the double doors it is FILTHY. Nurses seemed like they didn’t know what they were doing. They had problems accessing my dads port. We transferred out of this facility into a hospice house that was incredible. The first comment the staff made once my dad arrived was they could not believe how dirty my dads mouth was. It is sad that the patients here do not get the care they deserve at the end of their life. I will always be thankful that we were able to get my dad out of this facility before the end of his life.

When my mother was in the hospital and it became apparent that she would not recover, a doctor recommended Carpenter House, an in-patient hospice facility of St. Joseph Hospice in Baton Rouge. The nurses and staff were so wonderful and caring and the facility was very peaceful and comfortable for mom and our family during her last days.

We took care of my dad at home. We had St. Joseph Hospice come and provide 24-hour care. The caregivers and the nurses were very good. They helped him bathe and checked on him regularly. We worked with them for about a year. We also had them for my mother for 7 years. I would recommend them.
