I visited this facility

We went to see Aegis of Kent. We were favorably impressed with the staff, the philosophy of care, and the visiting policy. They have an open-door policy, where the family gets a code and you can go any time 24 hours a day with no advance notice, which meant a lot to us. It felt very transparent, and I feel really positive about that. The thing that turned me off about this facility was the physical plan. The facility itself was a little bleak. There was something a little bleak about it that was kind of a turnoff. It didn't have a homey-feeling to it. The staff was responsive, thoughtful, and dedicated. They provided good follow-up. I thought they were good. I got a good feeling about the staff. The facility was clean, well laid out, but it was a little bleak. That was the main turnoff: the actual physical facility itself. A lot of the decor was sort of in reference to cultural stuff that my mom is not that interested in. There's a lot of pictures of 1950s pin-up girl-kind-of-look (which is very cute), but she wasn't going to respond to that that well.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mother is in Aegis Living in Kent. She's in their memory care unit, and they've been fabulous. The staff is wonderful; they're loving and caring. We had to move her in during COVID, and they sent us pictures and newsletters. They try to send us newsletters every day with pictures to tell us what's happening and what they're doing. They also do a lot of art. They have an outdoor area that they decorated to make it nice and cozy, and we can visit our loved ones there. They communicate well, and it's great. I'm able to check the menu, and my mom thinks the food is fabulous. We're not able to go in there and eat meals with them at this point. I virtually toured the facility, and it has a really decent layout. They have four neighborhoods -- that's what they call them -- and they're just really nice. The room that my mom shared with another person is really nice, and all of her things are there. They're very accommodating and helpful. I was not able to go inside the building, just inside the office. They have beautiful grounds, and they have a nice backyard with a mini-golf putting green. The office was attached to the building that's only memory care, and all their doors to the community are locked. As for the amenities, they have a hair salon. They just recently were able to go for a ride. They are taking the residents a few at a time on a ride on their bus to different places. They have large areas where they do exercise, play, and do some things. They do activities all the time, but I was not able to be there and see it myself. I've seen pictures and I've heard about it because of the newsletters. The only interaction I have is with the office staff when I go to the front door and talk to them, or when I go in the back gate to visit my mom in the outdoor area where there are no residents out. I get texts and pictures of what they're doing, and I'm able to talk to her whenever I want, or she can call me. I just know that for the cost -- for that type of care facility -- I feel comfortable with it. I feel fortunate that we can have her in a decent place and she's able to afford it. I'm happy with what I'm seeing virtually and through phone conversations, chatting with the people who met me at the gate, and also with my mom. The most important things are she's being taken care of and being treated with respect, and I feel like she's getting all of that there. The outdoor area is a constructed, tent-like situation that has a plexiglass screen built into it. It has little fireplaces on either side for heating, and it's really quite nice. They've made it as nice as possible in this kind of time. It's strictly memory care; there is no assisted living. All the staff there are trained to deal with memory care people, even the kitchen staff. It is awesome.

I am a friend or relative of resident

My dad had advanced state Alzheimer's when he came to Aegis of Kent. The staff was great. Whenever any of his kids showed up for a visit, dad was up and included in social activities He was always clean. The staff treated him with respect and truly cared for him. They cried along with us, when the end came. Absolutely would recommend Aegis of Kent for Memory Care.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

Aegis of Kent is a small facility, and it works out great for my dad. We were greatly impressed with this facility. What I like about best in this facility is their staff. I walked in there, and dad has been doing painting and musical things.

I am a friend or relative of resident

Residents are taking care of in loving manner, many caregivers truly love the residents, all of whom have Alzheimer's or dementia.. One downfall would be the amount of turnover of employees.
