"We have found an ideal place for our mother. She's been in Rockin Chair Residential Care since December. What got my mother at this facility is my daughter-in-law, whose granddad had previously been down there. I researched all of the other homes and they at least had one bad comment and this place didn't have it so we checked it out. Since she has been at this facility, she's gained 6 pounds. Before that, she had lost down to 84 pounds so any illness would have wiped her out. She loves it there. There are 3 nurses there and there is a doctor that comes in every other week. The front porch is lined with rocking chairs. She's happy and our family is too. She's feeling better. She has been hospitalized since she was there for a recurring UTI. We just felt it best if she went to a hospital and they took her there and then they were there to receive her upon her return. It was just like being back at home for her. It's assisted living and it's a 16-bed facility. The rooms are either semi or private. They do not let the residents just lay in their beds all day. They're up and dressed and they go to the dining table to eat. My mother doesn't walk so they put her in a wheelchair and they take her around. That made her feel more comfortable and more like an individual, so to speak. They have an outside yard that has a little garden out front. It hasn't been fixed due to the winter. It will be spruced up, as we do in our homes, in the next few weeks. They have a porch on the front and one on the back too. The food is prepared in a way the residents need them for digestion so it's being cut up into smaller pieces or pureed. There are steps going into the building but there's also a ramp. "

"It seems as though Roger is getting the attention that he needs at Radford Health and Rehab Center, and it seems clean. The room is basically adequate. You could bring in your own furniture and make it a little cozier in the assisted living, but the room in the nursing home has the basics. It’s not as warm and fuzzy as the assisted living. This was like a hospital where they delivered food to each room. I know they have bingo and they have some different activities throughout the day for the residents. They have a calendar in each room with four different activities in a day. The attitude of the staff seems positive. They have a receptive attitude about things the family has discussed with them or asked of them."

"This facility is understaffed. The dementia section is not a good place if your loved one is suffering from paranoia the wandering demented terrorize the other patients by coming into their rooms dragging off covers taking their items yelling, taking food off their dinner trays for those who cannot defend themselves this presents a certain amount of risk. Patients end up dehydrated and UTI's and falls and broken bones shortly after arriving. Patients are left sitting in a large room for hours on end with support to their spines. When you mention issues you are made to feel it will be addressed and it is not you have to repeatedly ask over and over. The staff appear caring and have a very difficult job but are stressed and spread very thin. "

"My friend is in long-term care. It's an excellent place. I have very high standards for it. They're very efficient, very kind and caring. It's a beautiful facility. It's large, clean, and very nice. There is no smell at all. Their staff is excellent. Activities are great. They do everything very, very well. She loves the food, it's excellent."

"I like the fact that at Warm Hearth Village, you can buy a condominium or a place to live there. It's a gated community, which is quite normal. They take care of the cleanliness and upkeep. They had all kinds of exercise, swimming pools, a tennis court, and organized exercise. The staff has been very helpful. They have some other things there concerning hair and stuff, and there's a whole list of that."

"I went to Loving Hands. It was OK but wasn't that great. The staff was very nice. It was just too small, and I didn't like the room accommodations. They didn't have studio apartments, just one-bedrooms or shared rooms without separate bathrooms. It's hard to get up there because you had to go up a small road on the side of the mountain. They said they had lots of games for the people, but I didn't observe any. My main concern is it didn't have the separate bathrooms. "

"My mother was at Westwood Center before she passed. It's a part of Genesis Care, and it's for rehabilitation and nursing. It's in Bluefield, and they were really good with her. They found that she had spleen and liver cancer that was super aggressive. They were really attentive to her there. Everything was really convenient. The rooms were easy to find, and they were nice and clean. They have a barbershop, a beauty salon, a sunroom, and a cafeteria. The food was catered for each person and whatever they required. The facility was very secure and nice."
