"We lived at the Wright House for ten years. I liked the fact that they had community gatherings and it was inexpensive for us. Everything was included. Their staff was very helpful and very kind. I liked to do arts and crafts. They had cooking, and they had gatherings where we did origami. The last time I was there was about three weeks ago. I went to visit a friend. The apartments were beautiful. It was brand new when I moved in. We cooked our own food, and they supplied holiday meals and it was excellent. The last few years that we were there, they had stopped the activities because of COVID. Sometimes, they had a good turnout, and other times it wasn't very good at all. It all depended on what the event was. They have subsidized housing there, so your rent was dependent on your income and I thought that was extremely fair."

"The tour we had at Wake Robin was very nice. What I didn't like was that of course, you're in Vermont, it was a hilly location, so there were different levels for different buildings. There were walkways and I thought for older people, it would be a little difficult getting around. I didn't think the inside was as nice. It was an older facility, but my daughter had raved about it. She said everyone she knows loves it there. They had lots of activities for everybody. They were having an ice cream social and there were quite a few people at that. They also had art, woodworking, tennis and pickleball, and an exercise room. They were a little more expensive. I think they're about $4500, but you would automatically move into assisted living without an increase in cost. To me, that seemed more desirable to an elderly person."

"The staff at Allenwood at Pillsbury Manor was very nice, helpful, and full of energy. The bedroom is adequate for one person. They have a room for art classes, another room for playing cards, and a very nice dining area, but they don’t have a pool. "

"I did a tour of Williston Place. It's the newest installation, and there were a couple of good things. It was built over a parking garage, so you'd have parking out on the snow. Although, they do snow cleaning in most cases. It's almost like two or three years old, it couldn't have been there for 20 years. Every one of the rooms has a storage area, which is kind of nice. They have dinner every night, and they have a calendar of events. It's one meal a day. They have sort of an outdoor patio, adjacent to kind of a bar there. They're the newest and they have the covered parking."

"I found the Pines Senior Living Community. It's reasonably priced, it's kind of a nice community, and architecturally I really like the place. But South Burlington is a really nice community to live in. It's got several colleges and lots of things going on, plus I have relatives reasonably nearby. It includes all of the utilities, those sorts of things are part of the cost, and an underground parking garage, which is nice. The kitchen and everything's all set. You have to bring furniture, but it has a nice kitchen. They don't have regular meals, but about two or three times a week they have somebody that comes in and caters. Usually 30 or 40 people will have a meal, but it's not part of the rent. They have a little garden space, about four by eight. The staff have been excellent, very helpful. I'm playing cribbage and they found me some folks to play bridge with. The folks are really, really good. They also do a nice job of recycling, and Vermont, for the most part, even collects compost. I haven't been here very long, so I haven't gotten into a lot of stuff, but they have a fair number of activities for folks, and some pretty much going on every day. They take people on drives, so it's really not a problem if you don't drive. They have bus service and they take folks to the grocery store once or twice a week. There are two good-sized buildings. One of them is called Juniper at 7 Aspen Drive, and the other one is Balsam, and that's 5 Aspen Drive. They're just really across the parking lot from each other, but the main office is at 7 Aspen Drive."

"We have decided on Gazebo for my parents. The place is assisted living, so they provide hot meals, a ride to doctors' appointments, and so on. My parents will have a one-bedroom apartment. I had a great experience with the staff. They seemed enthusiastic, welcoming, and answered my questions. I could go back any time to measure the furniture they want to bring in, so they're very easy to work with. We had lunch there and it was good. They have many choices and there are options at every meal. The residents sit down and order from the available choices for each meal. There's also a menu posted ahead of time. They have an activities coordinator who introduced herself to us while we were over there measuring yesterday. They have movies, exercise classes, games, puzzle groups, crafting, bingo, and other normal stuff you see in this kind of places."

"I went to The Converse Home. It is very comfortable and very welcoming. The room is very nice, small but clean. It's well taken care of. I think the memory unit has under 20 people. They have very good, very nice staff. The dining room is very nice. They have a good chef. They were doing something when we were there that day. They were sitting in a circle and interacting with one another. They had someone leading them into some kind of activity. They also have a garden area and a gazebo. It's a very warm atmosphere."

"My mom is in Burlington Health & Rehab. It looks like an older place when you first see it, but when you get inside, it's very clean and it doesn't look and feel like a nursing home. The staff is very good. The food is adequate, not over the top, but they give balanced meals. I'm pleased. A lot of the activities are social interactions with guests and residents. They also have church, games, and puzzles in the main room."

"My parents are moving into Mansfield Place. They are licensed to access Medicare. They're a full-service nursing facility. We had the opportunity to visit their dining facility and to visit their activities. They had several activities rooms. The facility is very well-kept. Their rooms are spacious. The facility is set up so that the wings are accessible based on the care that you require. So the assisted living wings are all accessible by Assisted Living residence, so my mother can leave her apartment and go to an activities room and not be worried about being lost. She can access what she's allowed to access based on her evaluation. I'm happy that my mother would not be a wandering risk, which is something that's a very big deal. There are several residents here that my parents know, including my mother's sister, who is in a memory care wing at this facility. So that was a big bonus as well, was that my mother would be able to visit with her sister. I enjoyed meeting all of the staff that I have met so far. They're all very welcoming and friendly. They have a gathering place. They call it the pub where you can meet and greet, and have a drink with your fellow residents. They have a movie theater room where they have dinner and a movie, or movies to watch together as a group instead of sitting in their room by themselves and watching them. Mansfield Place is right on the bike path in Essex Junction. So I think with assisted living, my mother can leave the facility to walk the bike path as long as she's accompanied because she's a fall risk. It's close to the restaurants and the shops that they like to frequent. And it's close to their family so that they can be easily visited. The place is very clean."

"I am very glad that my grandmother has such a caring and considerate staff to look over her. The best thing is how they have activities for the residents to take part in that are fun and engaging. For example, they have community style meals in a communal dining hall and the residents are all encouraged to socialize.I also like how it is a small and intimate community. My grandmother has always been a bit of a poet and writer, and they always encourage her to keep up at it, even as she is becoming a bit more forgetful. "

"The Kirby House is a licensed Level 3 facility that averages about 30 residents, at least 70% of whom have been there over 10 years. There are even a few that have been there for 15-20+ years! They have round-the-clock nursing staff who all seem very knowledgeable and helpful. It is evident that all the staff actually WANT to be there and LOVE what they do. The residents and their illnesses, difficulties, and the way they [the residents] handle them varies greatly. This, one would expect, could be quite a difficult handful at times. But even though I saw most of the residents have a bad day from time (like anyone), the staff were able, confident, and patient with every situation that arose. I did see a couple of moderately difficult situations occur as one would expect in a house of 30 residents and a few staff to have problems of conflict, disagreements, etc., even if all of them had NO problems. But the way the residents (who treat each other like a close family) and the staff resolve and diffuse those situations is so well done that it was like a perfect & finely tuned watch. It was amazing to see just how well they all got along that I was actually moved almost to tears. With all that said, it may come as no surprise, then, that though it is a Level 3 Nursing Care & Assisted Living Facility, the staff (and residents) prefer to run it more like a Family's Home. They still certainly are more that compliant with the Rules, Laws, and Regulations set by the State of Vermont and Federal Government, but it still has a warm heart within that is easily heard and felt by all.
