I visited the independent living community of Ekos City Heights. I spoke to one of the agents a little bit over two weeks ago. I filled out the form and asked him if I needed to give him any down payment or anything, and he told me no. When I went back after getting the paperwork, he said the apartment I looked at on the third floor is no longer there. It's already rented, so they will put me on the fifth floor if I'd like, but the rent was almost another $500, so I told him I can't afford that. I asked him and his manager, who was standing there, why did he give up my apartment when he told me I didn't need to put a down payment or anything, and they just didn't answer. They said if I wanted that other apartment, they would talk to the owners of the building to see if they would bring down the rent for me. I was really upset about it. He wasn't too enthused, and I held it against him that if he needed a deposit, I could have put one down that same day if he had told me, because that was what I was looking for. He told me he would hold the apartment, and I could come back the following week after I had taken my dog and gotten the right paperwork for them to accept my dog. The place is independent living, and it's income-restricted. I thought the room would be perfect for me. It has on-site parking, and having the dog was fine. I bumped into a couple of people in the building. I spoke to a young man who also has kind of a larger dog about assisting me with my dog because I had wrist surgery, so it's very hard for me to handle my dog, especially going to a new place, and he agreed. I also met two other ladies, one in a wheelchair, and she was very pleasant. The young man showed me the empty apartment on the first floor and some of the amenities, and it all looked really good. They had all the amenities, but the only thing that they didn't have was a dog park. They do have a pool and gym where they have physical equipment and things like that. Their parking, which my friend and I drove around, is actually underneath the building, which is their ground floor. The apartments all start on the first floor. It looks good, and I was happy with it.
