My mom is in rehab at NHC Hendersonville. I have mixed feelings about it because you really have to push them. The first week or two that she was in there, they were helping her as much as they should have been therapy-wise. They're very nice and very easy to talk to. However, you just have to keep pushing them to get real results, and that's the only problem I had with them there. Their facility is excellent, clean, and comfortable. There is one problem with the bathroom door: It is too heavy for the people who are in the facility. But other than that, it's really a very nice place.

My mother is in NHC Healthcare Hendersonville. She's supposed to be getting physical and occupational therapy, and I don't think they're doing a very good job. They come in there and try to get her up, and she refuses, so they just leave her alone. I don't think they really put a lot of effort into getting her out to walk her. She broke her hip, and she's got dementia, so she really needs to be pushed a little bit, but they're not doing that. The nurses are wonderful, although they could use more because the weekends are short-staffed. Sometimes, it's hard to get someone because they are short-staffed, but the ones that are there are very nice and very helpful. Sometimes, you just have to wait to get one. I don't think the food is that great. My mom gets sandwiches in the evenings, and they're also supposed to be giving her Ensure during the day, but I don't see it with her meals. The facility is clean and neat-looking, but the walls are an ugly color. It is goldish brown and not very happy-looking. It's not really bright, and it would be depressing for anybody to stay there. They have activities, but because my mom is not walking, she doesn't get to go to a lot of them because they don't get her up and get her down there. I think she's only participated in maybe one or two activities because she's either in bed and not been down there, or she's in a wheelchair, but nobody comes and takes her down there because she can't pull herself in the wheelchair. From what I read in the monthly paper, they have quite a few activities. They even have church communion once a week. They just don't get her down there so that she can enjoy them.

My father is in NHC HealthCare Hendersonville. He had shared a room for a period of time and that person ended up leaving. They seem to be understaffed. Sometimes you don't get your call for the nurse or whatever; it takes a while for that to happen. All in all, I think it was very nice facility. The people there seemed to be nice, but it seemed like they're understaffed. I don't know if they are understaffed, if they have people taking care of different wings, or how they have that planned out. Sometimes when it's 20 to 30 minutes, you are late; sometimes it's excessive. When they are there, they're very helpful. They allow him to eat certain things that he likes to eat, even if they have a planned menu. If he wants a hamburger, chicken nuggets, or something like that and asks for that, they'll make it for him.
