Welcov Assisted Living at Kearney

The overall community is amazing. The Administration needs work. She is always on her phone, gives very little time to talk about concerns or my loved one, always in a hurry. Spends very little time out of her office and socializing with residents. The CNA staff is very good. Dietary department is horrible the food is very institutionalized. Nothing is home cooked. Housekeeping and maintenance are good. Seems we could be getting more services for what we pay.

We looked at Welcov (Wel-Life), which was pretty but small. We didn’t go through a room there -- just went inside to pick up some information for my mother. What we did see was very nice and pretty. We only saw two employees, so we couldn't judge the staff well. As far as the inside of the facility, it looked like it was nice, clean, orderly and very pretty. We looked at the inside of the main room, which was very homey. It was about 9:00 a.m., and I think everybody had just finished breakfast, so we didn’t see any activity going on. The gal who helped me out was working in the kitchen. She came out to see what I needed, and I thought that was really nice. The dining room was nice with nice tables; it was not really big, but it seemed really nice.

My brother is in Wel-Life. The rooms are very nice and very clean. The staff is very cordial. I like that it is a smaller community area so that my brother will not get lost, and it all is on one floor.

Pros: Clean facility, caring staff who know their residents. Cons: Activities could be improved & high turnover of CNA's.
