"We just moved our mother in The Colonial Home. Our experience so far was awesome, it was great. The people that worked there were just awesome; they're really good and they seem to care. They have family-style meals or home-cooked meals three times a day, and they have them go out to eat in the main area dining area. There's also a little living area with a piano, and they can also go outside on a little veranda. They have lots of chairs and rockers and things like that where they can go outside if they want. It's a small facility, so we saw the same staff people three days in and out. We met the people who are going to be her caretakers and they asked about what she liked and things about her. They try to help each one individually by what they need. The food looks awesome. They have activities for them and I think it's really good value."

"I toured Walnut Street Assisted Living. We had an appointment for 2:00, and there was nobody there to show us anything except for one of the aides. Everything was just in disarray. I feel so sorry for her because she was trying to do her best. There was nothing bad about the place. The room that they showed us, the lady had just moved out the day before, and they didn't have it cleaned up and ready, and so the staff was embarrassed. The aide that I talked to was supposed to pass the message on to somebody to be there at 2:00. She apologized, and she said she forgot to tell her, and so that's where that communication fails. It wasn't the aide's fault; she looked terribly overworked. The room they showed us could use a paint job. There were a couple of little holes in the wall that could have been fixed. As far as I could see, with the paint job and fixing a couple of holes, it looked fine to me. The staff showed me the dining room. They had space for watching television. She told me about the laundry room. From what I saw, the facility looked fine. There wasn't anything mentioned about appliances. There wouldn't be any rooms in the room itself. It was a small room, so the size of it was a drawback."

"My mother moved into Shepherd's View in Alton. It's a very nice facility in a rural area. The staff was very helpful in making our choice. It's a really pretty facility and very easily located just off the highway. They've just been very helpful and very kind, and mom has felt like she's gotten excellent care. She has a private room and is very happy with it. They clean it daily, and it's plenty spacious for one person. She seems perfectly happy with the dining area, and they're very accommodating regarding food. She said that if they were having something that she didn't like, all she had to do is tell them an hour ahead of time, tell them what she wanted instead, and they would fix it for her. Their menu is very accommodating. If it's something that the resident doesn't really care for, they'll fix that resident something else. The atmosphere seems very friendly and accommodating. Everybody seems to really enjoy living there. She says the food is great."
