My mother moved into Shepherd's View in Alton. It's a very nice facility in a rural area. The staff was very helpful in making our choice. It's a really pretty facility and very easily located just off the highway. They've just been very helpful and very kind, and mom has felt like she's gotten excellent care. She has a private room and is very happy with it. They clean it daily, and it's plenty spacious for one person. She seems perfectly happy with the dining area, and they're very accommodating regarding food. She said that if they were having something that she didn't like, all she had to do is tell them an hour ahead of time, tell them what she wanted instead, and they would fix it for her. Their menu is very accommodating. If it's something that the resident doesn't really care for, they'll fix that resident something else. The atmosphere seems very friendly and accommodating. Everybody seems to really enjoy living there. She says the food is great.

My mother-in-law has been at Shepherd's View Residential Care Facility for a little while now. It's located about nine miles from where she has lived her entire life, so it kept her close to family, close to people she knew, close to friends, and within the same cultural zone that she's always been. She's had several friends that have gone there. The staff is very personable, friendly, and very helpful. The food has been very good. It has a total of 35 people, so it's not a really huge facility. Everybody kind of knows everybody else. It's very manageable and very personal that way. It has some of the outdoor amenities that other places have, but it doesn't have a covered patio for people to sit out back. Other than that, the furniture is nice, and the carpets are relatively new. The cleanliness is very good, but the amenities are not quite as plush as the other places. It's not nearly as expensive either.
