My husband was in Cass County Medical Care Facility for five months. It's nothing fancy, but I was so surprised with the personnel and the equipment that they have. They have an on-site physical therapy department that's second to none. I've been to physical therapy a lot myself. As far as looking pretty and fancy, it's not, but if you're looking at functionality, it was a good place for my husband because he was in there for physical therapy. The location of the property is beautiful, but inside, it's nothing fussy. It's very utilitarian. Everything gets done. It's clean, but there's no fancy furniture and no thick carpets. It's just really basic to look at. After he was released as a patient, I took him there twice a week to continue physical therapy. He wanted that because the physical therapy was wonderful. The personnel were very, very well trained, and they have equipment that even I hadn't seen, and I've been in several different physical therapy settings. It faces the South, and there's sunshine coming in, and all the equipment is brand new. They have a good reputation locally, too. They have a separate entrance for the physical therapy because they take patients from outside, not just patients who live there. If it's someone who's looking for a good physical therapy unit, that would be the place to go, and they're not really expensive. Their funding is different than other places because they're owned by the county, and they have funds that come in from the government in that respect. The staff was very, very attentive and very knowledgeable about their job. They're very quick to respond. They are very well-staffed. I could tell just by the way they treated my husband that they were experienced people. They knew what they were doing. I felt comfortable leaving him there. The food was good, and it was a pretty good variety. They had probably four different items each day you could choose from. They had a standard group of items available at any time, like macaroni and cheese, and peanut butter, and jelly sandwiches. He enjoyed the food. It's very tasty. They were homemade foods. They made everything there. They have one wing that is for short-term stay and four other wings that are for permanent residents. The driveway and parking lot need help. There are potholes. It's a little bit awkward getting in after hours, and they lock it down at 5:00 in the afternoon. You can get in, but it's not easy. You gotta use a computer, and you have to print out a sticker for your shirt, and then you have to go through a series of buttons to push in order to unlock the door. It's a very safe entry, but after hours, it's a little difficult. It is one of the cleanest places I've ever been. They have it painted beautifully. The handrails are nice, polished wood. The activities were a little bit lacking. When the weather's nice, they take them outside and set them under a canopy and just let them sit there outside. It is not very expensive in our case. Medicare paid for it, but knowing what it would be if we had to pay for it was about half of what the other place would have charged. They have multiple sources of funding. They have self-service fountain drinks available to the patients 24/7. They have handicap buses that are owned by the facility that will take them to doctor appointments or something outside of the facility. They don't charge for that, and there are a lot of them. The drivers are trained medical care people, which is important to me.

Very caring staff. More adequate staffing levels than another place where my aunt was previously. They are open to ideas from patients and families.

We selected Cass County Nursing Home because it is close to home, and they offered services that we liked. It was excellent. The people working there were very accommodating. Everything was out in the open, and there was nothing to hide. It was worth recommending I guess because the residents and the staff seemed happy, it was clean, and it had a lot of features that aren't always offered in other places. They had a shuttle that would pick them up from the door, drive them off, and bring them back again with a very nominal fee.
