Grayson County is located just north of the busy Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas, metro area, in the northern part of the state. Texas is a state in which over 380,000 residents have been diagnosed with dementia or Alzheimer's disease, affecting those aged 65 an older in particular. Grayson county's 65 and older population is 17 percent of the 126,000 total residents. Out of that number of seniors, 14 percent have been diagnosed with Alzheimer's or another form of dementia. There are four memory care facilities in the County to house and treat these individuals.Â
Memory care facilities in Grayson County, as in all of Texas, are licensed and regulated by the state's Department of Health and Human Services. These are either a secure, separate wing of larger assisted living facilities or facilities exclusively dedicated to memory care patients.Â
