My mother has been at The Ellington of Rayne. She was there for the 100 days of rehab after a stroke and then we kept her there for a month in long-term care. We had a great experience with the rehab department. If she could have gone to physical therapy every day, she would have stayed there. We had a lot of issues with medication-related mix-ups, and some were supposed to be crushed and they were giving her an extended-release crushed, which caused all kinds of problems and setbacks. She had a UTI and a potassium deficiency and they gave her anti-anxiety and antidepressant meds instead of doing the blood work to see that her potassium was critically low and that she had a UTI. I felt like I was constantly having to go over there to tell them to check different things because she was completely out of character of what she usually was, so we knew something was wrong. She fell off the bed several times and did all kinds of unnecessary stuff. A lot of times, the food was spicy. She was on soft food and chopped food diet and they gave her chilidogs with hash browns. We were constantly having to send the food back, but they did give us oatmeal or replacement, whatever we asked for, but they constantly kept sending stuff that she shouldn't have been having to start with. A lot of people were fine. There was just a lack of communication there. We would complain about something, but then it wouldn't go past that one person. We constantly were having to complain to multiple people before the problem finally started getting solved. It was pretty clean and a lot of the employees were very nice and sweet. There were just a lot of issues. There were more good than bad staff. The facility was very nice and pretty clean. The price was pretty much the same as the other places we had checked into. The reason we decided to go with that one is because they had a higher rehab-to-home rate than most of the other nursing homes in the area. Their physical therapy department was amazing.

The Rayne Guest Home was one of the nursing homes that my sister first went into. They caught her smoking and had no recourse but ask her to leave. And they gave her a lot of chances to quit smoking, but my sister was determined. The staff was very nice. They really tried their best to take care of the residents, but there were some lapses with the care. I knew of a few residents that were left to their own for a while, so I think this is what they need to improve on.
