Christwood in Covington had very large grounds with lots of plantings. They had a lot of several different buildings with a wide variety of designs on the units. They had excellent choices of units. They even had some independent three-bedroom homes, like a single family home. They had very large grounds to go bike riding, or hiking, and gardening. They had rooms in buildings similar to condos where you have people close to each other. The nursing facility is excellent, with lots of equipment and staff. The memory home is large, and excellent, and had good staffing when I visited. The one patient that happened to be there at the time didn't strike me as needing memory care, but she thought she did. She was in pretty good shape. They have a very exceptional program to help people move in with a lot of freedom and get to decide whether they want to join Christwood or not. It's possible to buy an independent home, but they provide a service where they will totally take care of the home. So, you are relieved of the burden of plumbing, painting, window replacement, and maintenance responsibility for a fairly reasonable price. It's very easy to move from that service into the full Christwood facility whenever you're ready. They have free transportation into New Orleans, for example, for the opera. They have a local medical doctor who comes onsite to see patients. They have a very large community center with lots of events. It's the ideal retirement home. I met the staff supervisor and the food supervisor, and they're all very capable, and very motivated. I have a friend who stays there and seems to be very happy with it. I met more of the other residents there and they were all seemingly very friendly, well educated, and personable. There's a substantial membership fee upfront though.

The grounds are well kept and the staff is nice. The food is delicious - however, you pay for every light bulb that is changed. As long as you are independent, it is great. However, once you really need the care, it is not there. You would think patients that need 24/7 care would have eyes on them, but they do not. If you need round-the-clock care, you must shell our $30/hour for companion care. You are better off to keep your loved one in their house and hire in-home care. My mother sold the family home, gave Christwood all her money and we still needed in-home care. It's a rip off.

I went to Christwood. They have comprehensive care there. Mom can go in as independent living and stay there until she needs memory care and final nursing care. So it's all in one. The staff is very friendly and enjoy working there. They have a lot of outdoor, garden areas, they have a fitness center, a swimming pool, and outdoor walking paths.

My mother will be moving into Christwood, and she's going to be in independent living. I like the fact that it is so welcoming. It offers a buddy system right off the bat so that my mom can learn how to get around and meet people. It has tons of activities for her. For my mother, they have Bridge, singing, dancing, acting, choir, and writing, the things she's most interested in. We had lunch there. They have several places, and we ate in the cafe and it was delicious. The food was very good. The staff was super friendly and super helpful. It was beautiful, clean, organized, and easy to get around.

Christwood has a lot of activities to keep you busy. The staff is pretty good. Every night, you got a new CNA. Every day you get a new nurse. You don't get the same person over and over. The service is good, but some girls are better than others. Everything is excellent. The food is excellent and youget it hot. They have bingo, bridge, they paint your nails for you, they play movies, and they have outings to restaurants. The facility is excellent. They have a salon, a community center, numerous libraries, dining rooms, a reading room, and table for puzzles. I was in skilled nursing and I'm now in assisted living.

Christwood is pricey but nice. You have to pay upfront, and if you die next year, you lost all of that. I don't like that method. The staff members were very nice. They're friendly and accommodating. Food is excellent. They have a swimming pool, an exercise room, and a beauty parlor.

Christwood is out of our price range. You have to buy in, and if I am not mistaken, it was $4000 you have to put up front. The place is just as nice as you could ever imagine. They have a swimming pool and a spa, and the food is excellent. They have all kinds of programs going on all the time. It's more than what you would really compare these other places, but you also pay that much too. I think that the residents who live there are financially able, and they're usually highly educated people and have had a high lifestyle.

My father is going to go to Christwood in two weeks. It's like going to a country club, which I think is their main attraction. He likes to exercise and what really sold him was they have an Olympic sized saltwater swimming pool for their use. He will have a private apartment. The staff is excellent, and we've been very impressed.

Christwood Retirement Community is one of the finest communities that I’ve ever visited. It’s a lifelong facility. They have individual houses, and they have apartments that have constant care. It’s located next to an Episcopal school where they have intergenerational programs, so that helps the older people keep young. I think they’re expensive, but the service is impeccable. I know all the people there, and they’re well taken care of. It’s a great place if you can afford it.

I am in Christwood in Covington. It is very, very nice, and everything is just great; there are no problems. The atmosphere is very friendly, the maintenance and housekeeping is good, and the food is wonderful or way too good. We have some exercise things and they always have programs, lectures on various subjects, and someone will be coming out this week. Tonight, they have a big screen TV, so the LLG football games will be on that. There is always something going on. I can't say I've been to others to compare it with, but from what I know and what I've heard, this one is really first rate.

The Christwood at Covington was a very beautiful but outrageously expensive place. It was a huge property. They had the regular type facilities and apartment building and they had individualized garden homes. They had activities in a small area. The food was okay.

Christwood was very nice, very beautiful and very caring. They have people that spend the night with you like babysitters. There's always someone around should mom need help. She's in assisted living. The staff was very nice and treated my mom like their own mother.

I actually contacted Christwood but my mother didn't make it to the nursing facility. I had a chance to visit Christwood before my mother passed away. It was perfect and it was the one I would have chosen. It's pretty close to my house. I went to look at the facility to put her there, but she got sick and she just never got there. I actually found it through Caring.com website and I was pleased with Caring.com. But that would definitely have been the place I would have chosen. I would definitely recommend Christwood of Covington to others.
