"My mother's been there since April of this year. It's a totally independent facility, but they have caregivers on site. Medicare/Medicaid pays for them. There's a nurse and physical therapist that comes to her room. They have pull cords in the room so if she's in trouble, somebody would come and check on her. If they don't see her within a period or a day, they'll go check on her. It's a very nice area, but it's 25 minutes away from me, so I'm trying to find a place that's closer. The staff is very nice. They keep things dusted and vacuumed. They've got 3 meals a day, an open and airy place with windows, and a flowers house. She just had some issues adjusting to being there because at 86 she's a very independent lady. "

"My mother has been at Bridgepointe at Ashgrove Woods for a little over a week now and it's been going pretty well. We've been very pleased, she's had a really good week. The staff is very, very hands-on with her care. Even some of the administrators are down there helping out and feeding the people. We've just been very pleased with everything we've seen so far and she's adjusted very well to it. She is there for memory care and I would say the security is very high. It's behind locked doors and when you get there, someone walks back with you and lets you in, and then someone will walk to the door and let you out. They make sure the residents stay safe there, and the way it's designed, you're never too far away from help. They have different kitchen areas throughout the memory care so that you're always eating in small groups and you're always really close to where you need to be. I think they do a really good job on that. They're still kind of getting into the activities and kind of figuring that out but they have activities every day, we've been to a couple, and they've been good. It's a very new building and everything is just immaculate and beautiful. It's less expensive than many of the other options we looked at, but we're very pleased with what we're getting for it."

"We've chosen the Highgrove at Tates Creek for my sister. We just signed the papers yesterday. I liked it a lot. Everything was clean, the people were nice, and it was closer to us than some of the others. It was active. The rooms were nice and clean and accessible. I'm impressed with everybody. Everybody's very congenial, everybody's nice. They had the dining room. They're spacious, I thought it was a little bit dark, but they said they were going to take out the whole end of the area and put glass. Well, they have all the amenities that I needed. She has access to the beauty shop and, you know, just all the things that anyone with memory care would need and assist with. I thought they had everything."

"I toured Richmond Place. Awesome, it's just very expensive, but it's very nice. They have a good staff, and it's very well kept up. The rooms are huge. I was very impressed with the rooms. I had toured a room that will be shared. It was a very nice room, very nice size, very clean. I saw the dining area, and the dining area was very, very nice. They have an outdoor area where they can, like, go outside. They got little games and stuff set up outside. They can plant flowers. They also do crafts and things like that. They have someone that comes in that actually does all the activities with them, and they have activities every day. Just the way the whole community is set up, it's very nice, the TV area where they watch TV, the dining area, their rooms, and the outdoor area, were very, very pretty."

"I toured Legacy Reserve at Fritz. The public places were very large and pretty. It looks luxurious and kind of like a resort. My first impression of the room was that it was very tight, which meant to me that it's very solidly built and insulated. The bedroom and the living room were together. It's a very small loft. The person who assisted me was very nice, When she found out I couldn't afford the place, I think she was in a hurry to get out of there. I did ask her, "Can I at least see a loft? " She took me up the elevator and showed me one of the smallest rooms, a loft. I think that was like $2600 a month. I left there thinking, "I can't afford this place." I didn't eat there, but they had a café. I thought that was pretty good. The halls were very wide. They had a salon, and I thought that was cool. I didn't see any activities. I saw people just pushing walkers around, walking with canes, sitting and talking, and that's all. It looked pretty clean to me."

In December 1923, we officially incorporated as the "Old Ladies Home." We opened at our current location, 475 S. Ashland Avenue, in the spring of 1960, still named the "Old Ladies Home."
